Prayer: Father, it boggles my mind that I would stoop that low to cause you to regret making me. Over and over, I have sinned and come to you in repentance. Over and over, You have been gracious and applied Your mercy. Blessed be Adonai. Amen.
Reading: Psalm 106 key: 40-43
40 Therefore the anger of Adonai was kindled against His people,
and He abhorred His inheritance.
41 He handed them to the nations—
those who hated them ruled over them.
42 Their enemies oppressed them,
so they were subdued under their hand.
43 Many times He delivered them,
but they kept rebelling deliberately,
and so sank low into their iniquity.
Attention: Did you ever test your parents’ patience? Did you ever have your patience tried by your children? Did you ever reach the point that you regretted having children? Have you ever been despised by your own flesh and blood? Have you had a family member tell you they were born into the wrong family?
I have read this passage several times but not seen it the way that I see it today. The psalmist is referencing Deuteronomy 9:11-39, the account of the rebellion of the Hebrew nation while Moses was up on the mountain receiving the Ten Commandments. While God’s appointed was away, all hell broke loose. How could they so quickly forget and turn from the living God towards a non-god?
In what ways am I just like the Hebrew nation? In what ways have I tested God? Is my heart fully for Adonai? Did you know you could anger God? Do you know we can grieve the Holy Spirit? Why is obedience difficult and disobedience so easy?
I encourage you to ponder these questions and resolve anew, your heart toward Adonai. Express to Adonai, your sorrow over your waywardness. Repent and receive His forgiveness and walk renewed, giving Him praise for His mercies are new every morning!
Action: I repent today of my rebellion and actions which have tested Adonai.
Yield: When I repent, Adonai restores me.
Engage: When I repent, I activate Adonai’s mercy.
Relationship: What is restored when I repent and relent.
Prayer: Father, I am sure I have grieved You. I never want to test You to the point that You despise the day you made me. I love You! Amen.
Memory Verse: Romans 5:6-8
6 For while we were still helpless, at the right time Messiah died for the ungodly. 7 For rarely will anyone die for a righteous man—though perhaps for a good man someone might even dare to die. 8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Messiah died for us.
