Prayer: Father, I will do as the psalmist today and lift You up in praise. I love to sing Your praises. Let You glory be over all the earth! Amen.
Reading: Psalm 108 key: vs. 4-6
4 I will give thanks to You, Adonai, among the peoples,
I will sing praises to You among the nations.
5 For Your love is higher than the heavens,
Your faithfulness reaches to the clouds.
6 Be exalted, O God, above the heavens,
let Your glory be above all the earth
Attention: One of the things that I have enjoyed about the praise music of the 70’s was that most of them were word for word from the scriptures. Today the music which I link you with is one of those praise songs. I hope you enjoy it, and it plays in your mind throughout the day.
Before we get to the music, I want to make mention of verse 13, in which the psalmist has a special request. He pleads, “Give us help against the adversary, for useless is deliverance through man.” What adversary is he requesting help from? Notice he is not asking for help or protection from multiple adversaries. His request is singular.
Protection from physical adversaries like neighboring nations is typically what I am used to seeing requested by the nation of Israel. But today, the psalmist presents a singularized request, “adversary” and he makes an interesting claim, “useless is deliverance through man.”
He recognizes the need for intervention from the divine, as man’s deliverance is “useless” or no effect.
In Matthew 17:14-20 Jesus was confronted by a distraught father regarding his suffering son, telling Jesus, “I brought him to Your disciples, but they couldn’t heal him.” ‘Yeshua rebuked the demon, and it came out of him, and the boy was healed from that very hour.” The disciples came to Yeshua privately and and said, “Why couldn’t we drive it out.” Yeshua’s response, “Because you trust so little.” Some translations read, “this can only come out by prayer and fasting.” The tools Yeshua gives us are prayer and fasting and He requires us to have faith. Do we believe.
Deliverance is a word that has been on my mind and heart lately. There are many within the church and without, who need deliverance. Is the community of faith standing ready to offer spiritual deliverance? The apostles at that point in their training were not ready.
Action: Lord prepare me to provide deliverance to those around me in Your power!
Yield: When I yield to the Spirit of God, I seek to provide the healing and deliverance available in the Spirit.
Engage: I am engaged with the Spirit of God when I am seeking to heal and deliver.
Relationship: I am in full relationship when I administer to the physical and the spiritual.
Prayer: Father, I seek to minister to the nations as Jesus declared to go, disciple, and baptize in His name. May I minister like those He sent out, healing and delivering. Caring for the needs of the body both physically and spiritually. Amen.
Memory Verse: Luke 10:19
19 Behold, I have given you authority to trample upon serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you.
