Not to us

Prayer: Father, the glory is all Yours! Amen.

Reading: Psalm 115 key: vs. 1
Not to us, Adonai, not to us,
but to Your Name be the glory—
because of Your love and Your faithfulness.

Attention: Have you ever pondered why Adonai deserves all your praise? In text and song, the phrase Soli Deo Gloria means “to God alone be the glory.” The psalmist had this figured out and begins his psalm with, “Not to us, Adonai, not to us, but to Your Name be the glory.”

The psalmist elaborates about idols which the people of his day used to worship: non-deities which could not speak, or see, or hear, or smell, they could not feel, or walk or make a sound. They were inanimate images which could do nothing and yet they worshipped them.

Do we have idols or images in our lives which we look towards and falsely believe they have some power or ability to change our lives, or provide us something which only Adonai can provide?

My prayer today is that we all would come to the same conclusion as the psalmist, “Not to us, Adonai, not to us (or anything else) but to Your Name (exclusively, alone), be (all) the glory!”

Action: All my praise belongs to Adonai alone!

Yield: I am totally yielded when my praise if Adonai’s alone!

Engaged: When I am wholly praising Adonai alone.

Relationship: To Adonai alone belongs all my praise.

Prayer: Father, soli Deo gloria is my heartbeat. May my praise always be to You alone! Amen.

Memory Verse: Psalm 115:1
Not to us, Adonai, not to us,
but to Your Name be the glory—
because of Your love and Your faithfulness.
