Prayer: Father, You desire shalom over war and turmoil. May peace be my desire today and forever. Amen.
Reading: Psalm 122 key: vs. 6-7
6 Pray for the peace of Jerusalem—
“May those who love you be at peace!
7 May there be shalom within your walls—
quietness within your palaces.”
Attention: King David draws our attention to the peace of Jerusalem, by requesting our petitions and prayer for peace. Why was David requesting prayer? David had it in his heart to build a house for Adonai. He had a nice house, so he felt Adonai needed a nice house too (1 Chronicles 22). He was a man of war and bloodshed who desired peace, but Adonai told him that because of his history of war and bloodshed, He would not be allowed to build the Temple he dreamed of. Instead, the task would be given to his son Solomon. So, David drew up the plans and secured all the building supplies along with all the artisans and skilled workers to build what David said, “must be exceedingly magnificent, famous, and glorious throughout all the nations (vs. 5).”
It is quite a marvel of workmanship. It is, or was, grand. Just as David requested the prayers of his people, he is, through generations, asking us to perpetually pray for the peace of Jerusalem. Adonai established in His Word, the blessing which would come to those who pray for Jerusalem and the nation of Israel. These are the words He spoke to Abram as a perpetual covenant:
Then Adonai said to Abram,
“Get going out from your land,
And from your relatives, and from your father’s land, and from your relatives, and from your father’s house, to the land that I will show you.
My heart’s desire is to make you into a great nation, to bless you,
To make your name great so that you may be a blessing.
My desire is to bless those who bless you, but whoever curses you I will curse, and in you all the families of the earth will be blessed.” Genesis 12:1-3
Adonai’s desire is to bless those who bless Israel and Jerusalem. How do we bless Israel? We defend, protect, and pray for Israel.
I implore you to seek Adonai’s blessing by fulfilling His covenant decree of blessing the nation of Israel.
Action: Know this scriptural truth, I will seek Adonai’s blessing by praying and standing with Israel.
Yield: I am yielded to Adonai when I bless who He blesses.
Engage: I am engaged with Adonai in blessing Israel with prayer and support.
Relationship: I am in full relationship with Adonai when I bless who He blesses when I bless Israel.
Prayer: Father, thank You for the reminder of Your desire to bless those who bless Israel. Amen.
