Prayer: Father, what a wise thing to ask of You, to direct my steps. I ask that Your order them every day. Bring my path to cross with people who need an encouraging word. Someone who needs words of life spoken into them. May I have a timely word from You to share at the appointed time. Amen.
Reading: Psalm 119: 129-152 key: vs. 133
133 Direct my footsteps in Your word,
and let no iniquity get mastery over me.
Attention: I’m a crier! Are you? What makes you cry? Most of us would probably say, “I cry when my feelings are hurt.” I have found that I cry as a response to being overwhelmed with the presence of God. Have you experienced that overwhelming presence of the Holy Spirit? Music for me will elicit a tearful response as I am overcome by the presence of an all-consuming presence of Adonai. Do you know that crying is the one emotional response in which it is impossible to know if someone is hurting, or sorrowful, or joyous, or overwhelmed?
There was a popular song which became a full-length movie, titled “I Can Only Imagine.” It is based on a true story, but the song draws you into trying to imagine what your response is when you see Jesus face to face. Is your response going to be all out unimaginable fear or drop to your knees in complete surrender? Will it be tears of joy or tears of sorrow? Will you respond in dancing and celebration? I figure I will be crying, and He will do as the scriptures say, “He shall wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more. Nor shall there be mourning or crying or pain any longer, for the former things have passed away.”
I want to leave you with an observation about the tears of the psalmist today. Most of us cry as we repent about our own sin and failures. The psalmist is crying over the rebellion and failure of others. Notice what he says, “Streams of water run down from my eyes, because they do not observe your Torah.” He is crying over the rebellion of people who have no respect for God’s Law. I’m assuming he is crying for his own Jewish people. People who claim to know God but refuse to honor or obey His Law. Do you know anyone like that? Do you cry for them? When was the last time you cried for sin of others? When was the last time you cried for your adult children?
There is a promise found in Malachi 4:23-24. For those who are brokenhearted for your adult children I give these verses to you to hold on too.
Action: I ask the Lord today, to order my steps and order my calendar. I want to be where you want me to be, when you want me to be there. You are the director of this orchestra! Make my life an instrument of Your grace, mercy and peace.
Yield: I give my life over to you to manage and direct.
Engage: I love You directing my footsteps.
Relationship: I love giving You control of my life.
Prayer: Father, take control of me. Renew my life and restore it, repurpose it for Your glory. Amen.
Memory Verse: Revelation 21:3b-4
“Behold, the dwelling of God is among men,
and He shall tabernacle among them.
They shall be His people,
and God Himself shall be among them
and be their God.[c]
4 He shall wipe away every tear from their eyes,[d]
and death shall be no more.
Nor shall there be mourning or crying or pain any longer,
for the former things have passed away.”
