Lift up your hands!

Prayer: Father, show me how to worship You. Describe to me through your psalmist what worship looks like. Amen.

Reading: Psalm 134 key: vs. 2
Lift up your hands to the Sanctuary
and bless Adonai.

Attention: Our worship and worship styles have evolved over the years. I recall as a youth, that the concept of worship was being challenged and seems to experience change every decade. The challenge for evangelicals, was the simple lifting of hands toward heaven and Adonai.

Today the psalmist demonstrates the action and attitude of lifting our hands toward the “Sanctuary and bless Adonai.” Where is Adonai’s Sanctuary? The prophet Isaiah tells us “In the year of King Uzziah’s death, I saw Adonai sitting on a throne, high and lifted up (6:1))” and, “I (Adonai) dwell in a high and holy place (57:15b).” The apostle John tells us in the book of Revelation, he was told to “Come up here (heaven), and I will show you what must take place after these things. Immediately I was in the Ruach; and behold, a throne was standing in heaven, and One seated on the throne.” There were 4 living creatures “chanting,

Kadosh (Holy), kadosh (holy), kadosh (holy) Adonai Elohei-Tzva’ot, asher haya v’hoveh v’yavo!

Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God of Hosts, who was and who is and who is to come!”

And whenever the living creatures give glory and honor and thanks to the One seated on the throne, who lives forever and ever, the twenty-four elders fall down before the One seated on the throne and worship Him who lives forever and ever. And they throw their crowns down before the throne, chanting,

Worthy are You, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, For You created all things, and because of Your will they existed and were created!” (8-11).

There are numerous examples of lifting hand, lifting hearts in attitude and action toward Adonai. None greater than the demonstration of worship given by John or the vision he was given. We would do well to practice and memorize the words spoken by the living creatures and the twenty-four elders around the throne. John also to share in chapter 5, that the “voice of many angels…. myriads of myriads and thousands of thousands…were chanting with a loud voice,

Worthy is the Lamb who was slain, to receive power and riches and wisdom and might and honor and glory and blessing!” (11-12).

What a glorious scene, unlike any worship we have ever seen or experienced. This will be the ultimate worship of Adonai! You do not want to miss it!

Action: I will begin to worship Adonai mirroring the psalmist today and joining the angelic forces in praise and worship of Adonai one day.

Yield: With arms raised and in full voice, I surrender in praise of Adonai.

Engage: I am engaged in worship when my body, heart, and voice respond.

Relationship: I am His.

Prayer: Father, how glorious it is to worship and praise You. May my worship and praise extend upwards toward You in voice, and heart, and mind, and body. May, as King David said, “May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable before You, Adonai, my Rock and my Redeemer (Psalms 19:14).”
