Wisdom is a Tree of Life

Prayer: Father, so amazing is the wisdom and knowledge which available to all who will search for it, embrace it, and hold on to it. May my heart always be open to receive Your instruction. For it is more precious than gold, silver, and gems. Amen.

Reading: Proverbs 3 key: 13-18
13 Happy is the man who finds wisdom
and the man who gains understanding.
14 For her trade-value is better than silver,
and her yield better than fine gold.
15 She is more precious than jewels
and nothing you desire compares to her.
16 Length of days is in her right hand.
In her left hand are riches and honor.
17 Her ways are pleasant ways,
and all of her paths are shalom.
18 She is a tree of life to those who embrace her,
and blessed will be all who hold firmly to her.

Attention: There are times which I do word studies like I did last year while in the book of John. In chapter 15, John records a teaching of Yeshua which focuses on the word, “abide.” Yeshua repeats it numerous times, and it is an important concept for us to understand. It is so important that if you have not noticed, I end every day’s journal with a reminder to, “Abide in Yeshua, today!”

In Proverbs 3 there is a phrase which Solomon introduces us to comparing wisdom to a “tree of life.” In your future studies (remember, this is a journey for a lifetime. Please make a lifetime commitment to a daily lifestyle with Adonai in His Word), you will see this phrase. I hope that it will pop off the pages of Scripture when you come across it. You will find the phrase “tree of life,” in Genesis 2:9, 3:22, 24; Proverbs 3:18; 11:30; 13:12; 15:4; and Revelation 22:2, 14, 19.

Please take a moment and read over these scripture locations. Now, please observe the locations of the mention of the “tree of life.” I find it interesting that we find mention of the “tree of life” in the first and last books of the Bible, the alpha and the omega of scripture, and in the wisdom literature.

Yeshua is quoted by John in his gospel of claiming, “I am the way, the truth, and the life!” (14:6). Does it not make sense that if He is life, His Father’s words of wisdom would also be life giving? I encourage you to ponder though out the day, how valuable wisdom is to your life. Proverbs would be a wonderful place to find a life verse. I might suggest verse 3-4, “Trust in Adonai with all your heart, lean not on your own understanding. In all our ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.” How much does “all” mean to you? Am I willing to entrust Adonai with ‘all’ my heart?

Solomon tells us some specific actions to take regarding wisdom. What he suggests is, ‘embrace’ her (vs. 18), ‘hold firmly’ (vs. 18), ‘hold onto’ (vs. 21), and do not ‘let them out of your sight’ (vs. 21b). Will you receive His wise counsel today? I encourage you today to hold on tight to wisdom and discernment and do not let them out of your sight!

Action: I will embrace the wisdom of His Word today because it is life to me!

Yield: When I surrender to His wisdom and counsel, I am being wise and obedient.

Engage: I engage with wisdom when I hold onto it and embrace it.

Relationship: Wisdom is life to me!

Prayer: Father, may I seek and embrace and hold onto Your wise counsel, all the days of my life! Amen.

Memory Verse: Proverbs 3:21-22
21 My son, hold on to sound wisdom and discernment,
do not let them out of your sight.
22 They will be life to your soul,
and an ornament to grace your neck.
