Whoever is naive, turn in here!

Prayer: Father, I have choices all throughout my life. Help me to choose wisely. Amen.

Reading: Proverbs 9 key: vs. 10
10 The fear of Adonai is the beginning of wisdom
and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.

Attention: In reading today’s chapter in Proverbs, does it strike you that we have choices every day? That life is like a roadway map, with signs inviting us to take a right or a left? At the end of each road is a destination. Are we making the right choices to arrive at the destination? Have we chosen a destination?

Today we have global positioning systems on our phone, which are fallible. They do not always get you to the correct destination. I like the old days of Thomas guides, maps which provided you the layout for an entire county. However, even then, the guidance is only as good as a correctly updated version. New streets and subdivisions are added every year. So, even the latest versions are already outdated if the information you seek is not current.

Solomon divides life into two categories, wisdom, and foolishness. Notice that both are seeking followers. They both reach out to those passing by to “turn in here” (vs. 4 & 16). Both are welcoming and accommodating. Both are attempting to get our attention. Which will you choose?

Notice that both the invitation from wisdom and the foolish, is extended to the “naïve.” The naïve are those who can be easily influenced. The naïve are unsuspecting. The naïve are, well, the naïve.

Here is a definition of the word naïve: naive adjective
Having a lack of knowledge, judgment, or experience; especially, lacking sophistication in judging the motives of others; credulous; as, a naive belief in the honesty of politicians.

Might we say that naïve is innocence personified? We have all been there and still might be if we are not seeking the wisdom which is from above.

Of one thing we can be assured, God’s wisdom is never outdated. His wisdom, His word, His character is always the same, “yesterday, today, and forever (Hebrews 13:8).”

Action: I will choose wisdom from above from this day forward.

Yield: When I give up my wisdom for His.

Engage: When I am involved in making wise choices

Relationship: When I am seeking the wisdom which comes from God.

Prayer: Father, help me to make right choices. Good choices, good decisions, make for a better quality of life with You. Amen.

Memory Verse: James 3:17
17 But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial, not hypocritical.
