A Good Man Leaves an Inheritance

Prayer: Father, may I leave an inheritance which pleases You. Amen.

Reading: Proverbs 13 key: vs. 21-22
21 Misfortune pursues sinners,
but prosperity rewards the righteous.
22 A good man leaves an inheritance to his children’s children,
but a sinner’s wealth is stored up for the righteous.

Attention: Are you creating an inheritance for your children? Solomon says a “good man” leaves an inheritance to his children’s children. For most of us, leaving a financial inheritance is beyond our reach.

I consider my father a good man and he must have created, through home ownership and working for the same corporation for 39 years, a nest egg. I do not know my parent’s financial portfolio but the greatest percentage of us are living paycheck to paycheck. Throw into the equation the rising costs of health care and the cost of a late in life medical event and there most likely is little left for your children, let alone for your children’s children.

So, we know that Solomon is speaking of wealth, and we define that as money. However, perhaps we need to look at this issue in an eternal way.

If you are a grandparent, there are two organizations I would like to introduce you to. One is called Christian Grandparenting Network: Christian Grandparenting Network – Christian Grandparenting Network and the other is called The Legacy Coalition: Legacy Coalition – Christian Grandparenting Ministry.

Have you ever thought that a heritage or legacy of faith in Jesus is something more valuable than money? In our western culture, we have perpetuated a mindset that one retires, goes, and plays. What if the purpose of being a grandparent is to create and leave a legacy of faith? In the scope of eternity, this is why I started journaling, to model and leave a recorded legacy of my relationship with Adonai.

This is what the Bible is in reverse. The Bible is God’s recorded journal of love for mankind (1 Corinthians 10: 11, “it was written down as a warning to us”), and His desire to have relationship with us. Will we accept His invitation to live with Him eternally?

I hope you will start to leave a legacy of faith by engaging in the Choose Life Journal Lifestyle of daily time with God, through the Word, journaling and making an action statement. The discipline of the CLJ lifestyle and engagement with the Holy Spirit will transform your life!

Action: I will launch today into a new lifestyle of journaling with the purpose of documenting daily my faith journey with the Holy Spirit.

Yield: I submit to the Holy Spirit.

Engage: Journaling is a demonstration of engagement with the Holy Spirit

Relationship: Journaling is documenting my faith as a heritage to my grandchildren.

Prayer: Father, I want to leave a heritage of faith to my children’s children. Help me to see the bigger picture. My discipline today will pay dividends in the future in impacting their lives! Amen.

Memory Verse: Psalm 127: 3
Behold, children are a heritage of Adonai
—the fruit of the womb is a reward.
