Order my steps Lord

Prayer: Father, thank You for directing my steps. I much prefer You ordering and directing my steps every day. I am relieved of the burden of trying to make those decisions on my own! Amen.

Reading: Proverbs 20 key: vs. 24
24 A man’s steps are directed by Adonai.
How then can anyone understand his own way?

Attention: Decisions! Life is full of decisions. Every day is filled with decisions. Do you ever get tired of making your own decisions, to the point that you would like to have someone else make your decisions?

Today Solomon declares that, “A man’s steps are directed by Adonai.” Do you believe this statement is true? We have a lot of latitude to make our own decisions, but do you realize what we forfeit by not seeking God’s direction? Have you ever reflected over the years of your life and the big decisions you had to make? Did you seek God’s direction? Or up till now, have you just winged it or rolled the dice?

I want to encourage you to consider asking the Lord every day to order your steps. Ask Him for divine appointments. That means you are asking God to make purposeful connections with people who would be serendipities in your life.

Have you ever entertained an angel unaware? I live in a duplex apartment. There is an alley that runs along the back of the duplex. A lot of walking traffic pass by my apartment. The property is posted, meaning it is a trespass to be on the property. The duplex is built with the apartments on the second level, with carports below. The carports are open. They are not enclosed so it invites homeless people seeking shelter for the night to get out of the rain or cold.

I recall a man coming up the stairs and knocking on my door. There are two apartments, both on the upper level, yet he knocked on my door. He wasn’t dirty or shabby like most homeless. He was polite. I do not remember what he asked for, probably some help. I don’t remember what I said exactly, but I know that I refused to help him, and he walked away into the night. I remember how I felt though, because this verse in Hebrews came to mind, “Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers—for in doing so, some have entertained angels without knowing it (Hebrews 13:2).”

I have helped in other situations since. A few months ago, I was at the gas pump fueling my pickup truck and a young man pulled up on the other side of the pump. He kept acting like he was wanting to communicate something to me, and he finally worked up the courage. He asked for gas money. I quickly said, pull your car around so that I can put some gas in your tank. He might have been all of 20 years old. When he pulled around, I saw a young lady in the passenger seat and a toddler in a safety seat in the back. Hard times. He thanked me and they were on their way. I only wished I had shared Christ in exchange for the gas.

I encourage you to ask the Lord to direct your steps. Life is hard when we do not acknowledge or want God’s intervention. It is that rebellious spirit which allows one to distance oneself from God and make all kinds of bad decisions for your life. Invite Him to take control! You will be glad you did.

Action: Lord, I invite You to order my steps today and every day.

Yield: Letting the Lord direct your steps.

Engage: Surrendering your rights to decide your path.

Relationship: Allowing the Lord to direct my path and my steps.

Prayer: Father, I am relieved to know that You are directing my steps. I can see over the course of my life that You have been there all the time, even when I did not realize Your direction. Thank You for the very personal way that You direct me. I welcome and appreciate Your very intimate interest in my life. Amen.

Memory Verse: Proverbs 3:5-6
Trust in Adonai with all your heart,
lean not on your own understanding.
In all your ways acknowledge Him,
and He will make your paths straight.
