Prayer: Father, You have instructed me about the importance of every day. You have declared that every day is a day You have made. Help me to stay in the day and not the future. For all I am given, is today! Amen.
Reading: Proverbs 27 key: vs. 1
Do not boast about tomorrow,
for you do not know what a day may bring.
Attention: In staying in the day, no one did it better than the comic strip character Charlie Brown. Along with his many anxieties came challenges little boys face about baseball, school, Christmas pageants, and even a lazy day looking at the clouds and there many shapes.
While Solomon wrote about staying in each day, Jesus was recorded by Matthew telling us much the same thing. Here is what He tells us in Matthew 6:31-34:
“Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What will we eat?’ or ‘What will we drink?’ or ‘What will we wear?’
For the pagans eagerly pursue all these things; yet your Father in heaven knows that you need all these.
But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”
Neither Jesus or Solomon is instructing us not to consider and plan for the future. However, we should not be so wrapped up in the future, that we look past today. Our current culture has many of us consumed in fear about tomorrow and what danger is awaiting us. Jesus commands us not to worry about tomorrow, “for tomorrow has enough worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”
Did you know that Scripture instructs us about tomorrow? Are you listening, heeding, and obeying the instructions given to us? Who are you listening to? The world narrative, or the instructions from God’s Word?
Action: I choose to listen, heed, and obey God’s instructions about tomorrow.
Yield: When I am obeying God’s Word, I am yielding my will to His will.
Engage: When I listen to God’s instruction in Scripture, I am engaged in His will for my life.
Relationship: Full relationship with Adonai, is listening, heeding, and obeying His Word.
Prayer: Father, I desire to be obedient to Your Word in the Scriptures. Worry and fear are sins which I commit when I choose to do, what You tell me not to do. Help me be obedient. Amen.
Memory Verse: Matthew 6: 33-34
33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”
