There is a Generation

Prayer: Father, I pray that I am not that generation characterized by deception. May I not see the fruition of the generation which Solomon speaks about. Amen.

Reading: Proverbs 30 key: vs. 11-14
11 There is a generation that curses its father
and does not bless its mother.
12 There is a generation that is pure in its own eyes,
and yet is not cleansed from its filth.
13 There is a generation whose eyes are so haughty,
whose eyelids are lifted up disdainfully.
14 There is a generation whose teeth are swords
and whose molars are knives,
to devour the poor from the earth
and the needy from among humanity.

Attention: Solomon today gives us four characterizations of a haughty generation which I hope I never see. Here are the four things this generation will be known by:

  1. They “curse its father and does not bless its mother.”
  1. It “is pure in its own eyes, and yet is not cleansed from its filth.”
  1. “Whose eyes are so haughty, whose eyelids are lifted up disdainfully.”
  1. “Whose teeth are swords and whose molars are knives, to devour the poor from the earth and the needy from among humanity.

This sounds like the 2 Timothy 3 passage which I referenced a couple of days ago. In the end times, people will be characterized as disrespectful to parents, self-deceived, self-righteous, haughty, conceited, treacherous, reckless, and take advantage of the poor and the needy.

I saw myself in that passage several years ago and repented. It was as if, I was looking at myself in a mirror. I did not like what I saw. Unfortunately, I see all these characteristics in our generation. Our only hope is to repent and turn from our wicked ways. We must repent individually, collectively and it must begin with me.

What is your relationship with your parents? If you are like me, and you are disenfranchised from your parents, you are not in right relationship with God. I encourage you to make things right with God first, and then reconcile with your parents. How do I know this? The apostle John tells us, “If anyone says, I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar. For the one who does not love his brother, whom he has seen, cannot love God, whom he has not seen. And the commandment we have from Him: that the one who loves God should also love his brother (1 John 4:20-21).”

The Scriptures tell us exactly who we are, “a liar.” It is not possible to love God and hate someone else, and especially family. I encourage you to make relationships right with your biological family before you make things right with your spiritual family.

Action: I choose today to reconcile with God first and then make things right with family and friends.

Yield: I choose to reconcile with my biological family as an act of obedience to God.

Engage: I am engaged when I am obedient to God.

Relationship: I love God when I love my parents and family.

Prayer: Father, I love You and I purpose to show my love to You by reconciling and respecting my parents and family. Amen.

Memory Verse: 1 John 4:20
20 If anyone says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar. For the one who does not love his brother, whom he has seen, cannot love God, whom he has not seen.
