Prayer: Father, there is none like You. There is no one above Your Supremacy. Your abilities and character are way above man’s. There is none like You. Amen.
Reading: Job 9 key: vs. 2-3
2 “Truly I know it is so,
but how can one be righteous before God?
3 If anyone wished to contend with Him,
he could not answer Him once in a thousand.
Attention: In the late seventies, there was a Broadway musical titled, Your Arm’s Too Short To Box With God which claims to be based on the biblical book of Matthew. I know nothing about the musical other than I remember the title catching my attention. The title caused me to think of Jacob who struggled with either an angel of God or God Himself (Genesis 32:25-32) and came out of the wrestling match with a forever limp and a name change.
Job was not only contending with his friends, and I wonder, the influences of Satan on his friends and himself, but also His concept of God. He says, “He (God) is wise in heart and mighty in strength. Who has resisted Him and come out whole?” Job knew of Moses’ encounters with God and survived. He wondered about himself. But God had already determined he would survive. He had told The Satan, “spare his life” (2:9).
Job inventories for us what he knows of God:
- He moves mountains
- He shakes the earth
- He speaks to the sun
- He seals up the stars
- He alone spreads out the heavens
- He makes constellations
- He does great and unfathomable things, wonders without number
Do you know how great God is? Have you pondered like Job, how majestic His ways? Did you notice that the list consists of His created efforts? We will see more conversation later in Job between God and Job where God asks Job, “when was the last time you did what I have accomplished?” There is no comparison. He is beyond our comprehension.
Action: I will ponder the mighty works of God today and give Him praise and glory!
Yield: I yield to God when I acknowledge His Sovereignty.
Engage: I engage with God when I acknowledge He is far above me.
Relationship: I am in full relationship when I bow and give Him praise.
Prayer: Father, Your name is glorious! Your works are spectacular! I am ever in awe of You! Amen.
Memory Verse: Psalm 19:2
2 The heavens declare the glory of God,
and the sky shows His handiwork.
