If

Prayer: Father, create in me a clean heart. Search me and know my heart and see if there are any wicked ways in my heart. Amen.

Reading: Job 31 key: 4-6
Does He not see my ways
    and count all my steps?
“If I have walked in falsehood
or my foot has hurried to deceit,
then let Him weigh me with honest scales,
then God will know my integrity.

Attention: When we think of judgement, if we picture the blindfolded lady with her hand extended and holding scales, we might think that the depiction is does the good outweigh the bad?

Job knows that God “sees my ways and counts all my steps.” So, he inquires of God, where have I failed? He makes a whole series of “if” statements asking if this is where he is guilty. He asks:

  • Have I walked in falsehood?
  • Have I strayed from the way?
  • Have I been enticed by another woman?
  • Have I treated my workers (servants) unfairly?
  • Have I withheld form the widow and orphan?
  • Have I eaten and watched the orphan starve?
  • Have I not provided for the poor and needy?
  • Have I put my confidence and security in gold or money?
  • Have I rejoiced because of my great wealth?
  • Have I rejoiced at my enemy’s misfortune?
  • Have I covered my transgressions like Adam?

Then, he signs his signature and requests Shaddai (the All Sufficient One) to answer him (vs. 35). He offers an accounting of his steps as he approaches God like “a prince.” He is approaching Royalty.

If I used this same list, I would feel condemned by my actions and inactions. For I am guilty of several of Job’s questions. James (Jacob) 2:10 says it this way, “For whoever keeps the whole Torah but stumbles in one point, he has become guilty of all.” It only takes one action to be guilty of all.

Remember, Job’s character was established in the first two chapters as, “blameless and upright; he feared God and shunned evil.” He was not perfect, but he was blameless and upright regarding the Law. Yeshua fulfilled the Law; therefore, until we are born again, we are guilty under the Law. When we are born again, we are spared the wages of sin which is death by the grace extended to us in Jesus.

Action: I receive God’s grace gifted to me through Jesus who died in my place.

Yield: I am surrendered to Jesus’ gift of grace.

Engaged: I am engaged to the bridegroom Yeshua!

Relationship: When I am born again, I am one with Christ.

Prayer: Father, I praise You as the All Sufficient One! Amen.
