Prayer: Father, teach me to speak with You like King David. May I compose my prayers with a song or musical instrument. May my prayers intimately and passionately represent my heart for You. In Jesus’ name, amen. Reading: Psalms 4 key: 9 9 I will lie down and sleep in shalom. For You alone, Adonai, make me live securely. Attention: Have you ever had a season when peaceful sleep eludes you? You toss and turn and just cannot get to sleep. King David knew the secret of a good night’s sleep, trust God. He declares, “I will lie down and sleep in shalom (peace). For You alone, Adonai, make me live securely.” David knew he could sleep in peace, because of God alone. God was the source of his peace. There are many reasons why we may not be sleeping well. Worry, depression, anxiety, diet, we get knocked off our routine, and stress may be among those reasons. When I drove school bus, several of my associates because of height and weight were in the index for sleep apnea and were required to participate in a monitored sleep test. Some were required from the results to secure a CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure) machine. There are many things which good peaceful, restorative sleep does for us. You can find a lot of content on sleep. In my brief online search, I found an article in VeryWell Health, by Mark Stibich, PhD, titled: Ten Benefits of a Good Night’s Sleep. Here is the ten bullet points: 1. Sleep keeps your heart healthy. 2. Sleep may help to regulate blood sugar. 3. Sleep reduces stress. 4. Sleep reduces inflammation. 5. Sleep makes you more alert. 6. Sleep Improves memory. 7. Sleep may help you lose weight. 8. Sleep helps your balance. 9. Sleep helps executive functions. 10. Sleep helps the body repair itself. What amazing benefits a peaceful night’s sleep brings us! I hope knowing that sleep does all these wonderful things for us, causes us to guard our sleep and thank God when we awake rested, alert and restored for another day with Him. Action: I am thankful for restful, peaceful, restorative sleep. Yield: I am surrendered when I cast my worries and anxieties upon God. Engaged: I am engaged with God when I recognize Him as the source of peaceful sleep. Relationship: I have full relationship with God when I am in peace. Prayer: Father, You alone are the source of my peace in this world. Thank You for peaceful, restorative deep sleep. Amen. Memory Verse: Philippians 4:9 9 What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me—put these things into practice, and the God of shalom will be with you.
