God is my Shield!

Prayer: Father, You are a shield around me! May I agree with Your Word today and acknowledge Your divine protection. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Reading: Psalms 7 key: vs. 11
11 My shield is God—
Savior of the upright in heart.

Attention: Israel’s Iron Dome is an “all weather air defense system designed to intercept and destroy short-range rockets and artillery shells fired from distances of 4 kilometers (2.5 mi) to 70 kilometers (43 mi) away,” according to Wikipedia.

What a sophisticated idea for a defense system and it has been proved to be effective at preventing the penetration of missiles through their shield or dome. David knew that God is our divine shield to the “upright in heart.”

The wonderful thing is that we do not know all the things He has prevented from coming against us. Things like diseases, attacks from the enemy, accidents, catastrophes, destruction, harm, and death.

A few weeks ago, I was just a couple blocks from my apartment, returning from a long walk. I was at a four-lane intersection with turn lanes running east and west. I was walking south and had entered the crosswalk with the crossing system. As I approached the middle of the intersection, I paused to look to the west to check to see if all traffic was stopped. To my dismay, the middle lane vehicle was not decelerating, nor was he braking. He continued at 35-40 miles an hour through the intersection. He never did slow down, honk, or stop. He just barreled through the intersection with me standing at most, a foot or two away from his car. I looked to the stopped vehicle to my left, put my hands up and shrugged, as if to say, “did you see that.”

I never did panic or even feel in danger. I did look back to the sidewalk I had walked from because I recalled seeing a bicycle officer moments before my crossing behind me. Have you ever said to yourself, “where are the police when I need one?” Well, he saw the whole thing and pulled the driver over at the next lighted intersection.

My guardian angel was on duty! I really felt protected. I have a shield and He is God. If you are His, you have the same protection.

Action: I will acknowledge God’s protective shield over my life.

Yield: When my life is surrendered to God, protection is one of the attributes of God.

Engaged: When I am engaged in life with God, He is engaged with me.

Relationship: A full relationship with God secures two-way involvement.

Prayer: Father, I thank You for the active protection and provision which comes from You. David knew and gave You praise, and so will I! Amen.
