I’d Rather Have Jesus

Prayer: Father, Your handiwork declares Your glory! Thank you for placing me in a region which so magnificently displays Your creative genius. I enjoy and love the beauty of Your creation. Amen.

Reading: Psalm 19 key: vs. 8-11 The Torah of Adonai is perfect,
    restoring the soul.
The testimony of Adonai is trustworthy,
    making the simple wise.
The precepts of Adonai are right,
    giving joy to the heart.
The mitzvot of Adonai are pure,
    giving light to the eyes.
10 The fear of Adonai is clean,
    enduring forever.
The judgments of Adonai are true
and altogether righteous. 11 They are more desirable than gold,
yes, more than much pure gold!
They are sweeter than honey
    and drippings of the honeycomb.

Attention: There used to be a game show on daytime television called, Let’s Make a Deal. They had selected contestants from the audience vie for the grand prizes which were hidden behind three doors.

What if you were one of those contestants and were told that behind one of the doors was a book which contained the “Torah of Adonai, the testimony of Adonai, the precepts of Adonai, the mitzvot of Adonai, the fear of Adonai, and the judgments of Adonai.” Behind another door was a stack of “gold” and “honey.” Behind the final door was an expensive luxury home, a car, and a boat. Which door would you pick? Tough decision? Not, if you understand the value!

David goes on to tell us the benefits of God’s Word. “Moreover, by them Your servant is warned. In keeping them (His Word) there is great reward. David continues by saying, Your Word also “keep Your servant from willful sins. May they not have dominion over me.” What David is saying is, keep me from those sins which I have no control over. Keep me from those sins which would dominate me. Keep me from addictions of all kinds.

So, which door would you select? I hope you see the value and benefits of being in God’s Word daily and journaling. David did and he documented for us to read centuries later. The truths of God still have power and value today to keep me from willful sins and from sin having control (dominion or dominance), over me.

Action: Bring me to the point Lord, where I would select Your Word and obedience above all the gold and things of this world.

Yield: I am surrendered when I value Your Word more than the things of this world.

Engaged: I am engaged in the process of becoming more like You when I know and listen to Your words of warning and wisdom.

Relationship: I am in full relationship when I am sitting at Your feet and feasting at Your table.

Memory Verse: Psalm 19:15
15 May the words of my mouth
and the meditation of my heart
be acceptable before You,
Adonai, my Rock and my Redeemer.
