Prayer: Father, You are my sufficiency, my all in all. May I like David, come to embrace, and declare, You are my rock and my fortress. Amen.
Reading: Psalm 31 key: vs. 4
4 Since You are my rock and my fortress,
You lead me and guide me for Your Name’s sake.
Attention: What is the largest, most massive thing you have ever seen? I can remember seeing the Grand Coulee and the Hoover Dams. Quite impressive for a man-made structure. Then on a trip to Arizona, I planned to visit the Grand Canyon. Did you know that the Grand Canyon is larger than the state of Rhode Island? I visited the Grand Canyon back in the mid-80’s and since then they have added a viewing site called the Skywalk. It has a glass floor providing a view of the canyon floor through the glass.
I remember the zing I felt in the back of my knees just trying to see over the canyon edge. No, I did not see the canyon floor. I am ok in an airplane but heights like skyscrapers and lookout towers, no thanks.
David likens Adonai to a large rock and a fortress. What we might call a bulkhead. Something formidable, massive, and protective in a time of battle. A refuge or hiding place from an enemy. We might also seek refuge from deadly weather, like a tornado or hailstorm.
God desires to be my Provider, Protector, Defender, my All in All. Who do I run to in times of trouble? I either run to Him or away from Him. A pastoral friend told me, either way, He stands waiting for us with open arms.
Action: I will expand my view of God as my Provider, Protector, Defender, my All in All.
Yield: I am yielded when I look to God for everything.
Engaged: I am engaged with Adonai when I reach vertically to Him.
Relationship: I take courage and Chazak (strength, be strong) in God in full relationship.
Prayer: Father, You are my strength when I am down. I run to the Rock of my salvation. I run to the Stone that the builders rejected. I run to the Rock. Amen.
Memory Verse: Deuteronomy 31:8
8 Adonai—He is the One who goes before you. He will be with you. He will not fail you or abandon you. Do not fear or be discouraged.”
