Keep my eyes vertical

Prayer: Father, the attitude of my heart and my eyes are important. May they be focused on You, upward and outward. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Reading: Psalm 47 key: vs. 7-8
Sing praises to God, sing praises!
Sing praises to our King, sing praises!
For God is the King of all the earth.
Sing praises with a skillful song.

Attention: I have found praise to be a key component of prayer and worship. When the attitude of my heart and my eyes are vertical, my eyes are off me and on God. The benefit is praise pulls me out of depression, and worry, and self-absorption and places them squarely on our sovereign King.

The psalmist knew that God is properly exalted when we praise God with our voice and singing voice. Praise is an audible expression of the inward thoughts and affection of our heart.

If you are down and dreary today, consider lifting the attitude of your eyes and heart toward heaven and see what happens.

Action: I will lift my eyes and heart in praise to the Lord today!

Yield: I am yielded when I praise Adonai.

Engage: When I engage in praise, my attitude changes.

Relationship: I am in proper relationship when I am vertical in praise.

Prayer: Father, thank You for inhabiting my praises. May I dwell in a vertical attitude of praise today. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Memory Verse: Psalms 147:1
Halleluyah!
How good it is to sing praises to our God.
How pleasant and fitting is praise.
