Prayer: Father, thank You for Your mercies which are new and fresh every morning. Great is Your faithfulness! Amen.
Read: Psalm 48 key: vs. 4 & 15
God, in her palaces,
is known as a stronghold.
15 For this God is our God, forever and ever!
He will guide us to the end.
Attention: The psalmist boldly declares that Adonai is “greatly to be praised!” Why? Because “God… is a stronghold (vs. 4).” When kings gathered against “the city of our God,” they “were astounded” and they “fled in terror (vs. 6).” “Trembling seized them, pain like a woman in labor (vs. 7).”
I am reminded of the demoniac in Mark 5. He was naked, lived amongst the tombs and while the locals had attempted to control him with chains, he terrorized the town. When Jesus approached the man, the demons within him pleaded with Jesus, “do not torment me.” Interesting isn’t it that the demons were feeling tormented? When God shows up, the tormentors become the tormented. A divine reversal is waged upon their souls. Righteousness and holiness subdue wickedness and evil. The demons are cast out, subdued and the man is restored, “sitting there, dressed in clothes and in his right mind (vs. 15b).”
Therefore, the psalmist can confidently say, “For this God is our God, forever and ever! He will guide us to the end (vs. 15).” Will you, can you, claim the same confidence in Adonai today?
Action: I will not fear and proclaim confidently today, God is my stronghold!
