Defender of Widows

Prayer: Father, may I embrace who You embrace, love who You love and hate what You hate. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Reading: Psalm 68 key: vs. 6
A father of orphans, defender of widows,
is God in His holy dwelling.

Attention: Adonai’s heart for specific people groups came to my attention about 10 years ago. The Holy Spirit prompted me to find my “do” according to James 1: 22-25. In vs. 27, James gives us two options for our care, “orphans and widows.”

Today, David tells us more about God’s character. He is a “father of orphans, defender of widows.” Adonai is a Father to the fatherless and a protector of widows. He has asked us on his behalf to care for these who are vulnerable to people who would take advantage of them.

I founded a nonprofit for the widowed in 2015 called The Widows Project. If you are not familiar with The Widows Project, here is a link to their website, www.thewidowsproject.org. I stepped down as President of TWP at the end to 2021 to launch First Place Ministries but I know they would welcome your donations to help the widows with grief resources and care, and if you would like to elevate your understanding of our scriptural mandate to care for widows, please consider purchasing a copy of The Widows Project: Serving the Widowed with the Love of Jesus. All sales proceeds go to The Widows Project.

Widows and Orphans are the Father’s heart. I encourage you to see them amongst us. Most married couples do not pass together, so one will be left behind. This organization understands and cares. TWP is widowed to widowed ministry. Widows caring for the widows.

Action: I will increase and elevate my awareness of my need to care for the orphan and widow. I will donate to The Widows Project.

Yield: When I care about what God cares about, I am yielded to Him.

Engaged: I am engaged with God in caring for those who touch His heart.

Relationship: I am in full relationship when my heart beats for what touches God’s heart.

Prayer: Father, may my heart beat for those for whom You have particular care. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Memory Verse: James 1:27
27 Pure and undefiled religion before our God and Father is this: to care for orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep oneself unstained by the world.
