Teach Us to Number Our Days!

Prayer: Father, help me to number my days and give each day value and importance. May I seek to prioritize my time with You, friends, and family. Amen.

Reading: Psalm 90 key: vs. 12
12 So teach us to number our days,
so that we may get a heart of wisdom.

Attention: If you lived in Seattle, or Snohomish County, or Monroe, Washington in 2000, you may have known Joe and Linda McKnight, pastors of the Rock Church located in Monroe. They had joined friends in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico for some sun and fun. On January 31, 2000, they were returning on Alaska Airlines flight 261 to San Francisco, then on to Seattle. Before they reached Los Angeles, the pilots discovered a mechanical malfunction which rendered the plane unmaneuverable, and 11 minutes later, they crashed into the Pacific Ocean, killing all 88 passengers aboard. They did not know they were spending their last day on earth.

If you are like me, you remember where you were on September 11, 2001. When the first plane struck the tower, I was still asleep and in bed. My cell phone rang from a friend in Atlanta who said, “turn on your television, we’re under attack.” I replied, “What?” She repeated, “turn on your television, we’re under attack,” and hung up. Those who perished that day also did not awaken that morning thinking, this was their last day.

We are not guaranteed tomorrow, we must be ready. Every day could be our last. The psalmist brings a solemn reminder and request, “Teach us to number our days.” I hope you take time to ponder this morning the value of each day is priceless. We have no more guarantee than the one who has been told they only have a few days to live. This could be our day. May we learn to number our days and live for the One who died for us.

There is a purpose the psalmist asked to be taught to number his days. It was so that he could acquire a heart of wisdom. May we also number our days so that we can acquire a heart of wisdom.

Action: I also will ask Adonai to teach me to number my days so that I may receive a heart of wisdom.

Yield: I am yielded when I ask of God.

Engaged: I am engaged when I “ask” God for His help.

Relationship: We can only accomplish with God, not apart from Him.

Prayer: Father, apart from You I can do nothing. I need Your help! I need Your wisdom. Amen.

Memory Verse: John 15:5
12 So teach us to number our days,
so that we may get a heart of wisdom.
