Prayer: Father, I want to be wise in my relationship with You. May I embrace the insight which the psalmist declares today. Amen.
Reading: Psalm 111 key: vs. 10
10 The fear of Adonai is the beginning of wisdom.
All who follow His precepts have good understanding.
His praise endures forever
Attention: The only way that I can try to define the fear which the psalmist communicates today is to compare it to my human relationships and experiences. I used to be fearful of my dad in a way that made me want to comply with the house rules and made me want to please him. When I complied with the house rules, I didn’t need to be afraid of discipline.
I believe that is why God established the family model. An earthly, biological father by contrast is a type of and representation of our Heavenly Father. Unlike my father, I want to please Adonia because He holds the power over life and death according to Matthew 10:28.
We only know about fear, and love, and the Law, if we study His Word. We only know about wisdom when we study His Word. May we establish a proper understanding of wisdom by understanding fear.
Fearing God is the beginning point of wisdom. We need not fear man or the evil one if we have chosen life in Yeshua. God’s covenant is forever, and He is faithful and trustworthy. I define fearing Adonai as a healthy, appropriate respect. I fear Him out of a healthy respect which is wrapped in love. I love Him and He so loves me.
Action: I will start today to embrace a healthy, respectful fear of Adonai which is wrapped in loving Him because He first loved me.
Yield: I fear Adonai because it is the beginning of wisdom.
Engage: I fear Adonai because the psalmist has told me it is the beginning of wisdom.
Relationship: I want to be wise in my relationship with Adonai.
Prayer: Father, help me to understand wisdom and that wisdom begins with fear. Grant me wisdom in my relationship with You and with one another. Amen.
Memory Verse: Matthew 10:28
28 And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Instead, fear the One who is able to destroy both soul and body in Gehenna
