The Importance of Genealogy

Prayer: Father, I find it interesting that man is fascinated with his origin and roots. Yet, when You have told us from where we come, many have rejected the knowledge, or their origin as detailed in the Bible. May all who read your Word, embrace the Genesis narrative, that we were created by You, to know You. Amen.

Read: Genesis 5 key: vs. 1-2
This is the Book of the Genealogies of Adam:
When God created Adam, in the likeness of God He made him. Male and female He created them, and He blessed them and called their name “Adam” when He created them.

Attention: In the nineties the popularity of finding one’s roots or family tree spawned several ancestral organizations which from a DNA sample, were able to trace your family’s lineage. People flocked to these organizations to discover who they were.

I have had friendships with several people who were adopted and desperately wanted to discover their roots in hopes of discovering valuable medical history. If you are among those who would like to discover their roots, I pray for you today. That Adonai would help you find your roots in 2023.

The genealogical thread of Chapter 5 begins with “God creating Adam” and ends with “Noah” being 500 years old and fathering “Shem, Ham and Japheth,” tracing the full lineage in between the two men. I didn’t mention this in Chapter 2 but what is the primary physical difference between someone who was created, and someone born of man? What was the primary physical difference between Adam and Eve, and us? Adam and Eve did not have belly buttons.

Some of you are still pondering my last statement. Belly buttons are formed from the connection and disconnection from the umbilical cord.

Genealogical records were important to Adonai, as it established a record of the lineage of created man, the original to the populating of the earth. Life began from one man and one woman, then multiplied as prophesied by Adonai (Genesis 1:28). We are being obedient when we too multiply upon the earth.

Action: My identity is found in Adonai and the heritage of being from the line of Adam.

Yield: My roots are founded in the creative work of Adonai.

Engage: I am engaged in the biblical narrative of creation.

Relationship: Through one man came sin, through One Savior (Yeshua) came salvation.

Prayer: Father, may eyes be opened this day to Your creative act and lineage from Adam. Thank You for knowing me from the foundation of the world! Amen.

Memory Verse: Genesis 5:29
29 And he named him Noah saying, “This one will comfort us from our work and from the pain of our hands because of the ground which Adonai cursed.”
