Curtains

Prayer: Father, thank You for opening the veil or curtain of the Temple so that we can see Your glory. Amen.

Reading: Exodus 26 key: 1 & 36
“Moreover you are to make the Tabernacle with ten curtains of fine woven linen, of blue, purple and scarlet, with cheruvim made by the work of a skillful craftsman.
36 “For the entrance of the tent, also make a screen of blue, purple and scarlet, finely twisted linen, the work of a color weaver.

Attention: I think that most of us in the Western world know what curtains are, and know their purpose. Curtains provide privacy against snoopy or nosy neighbors. For my house, they also help hold the heat inside against freezing temperatures.

For Adonai, the Tent of Meeting or the Tabernacle, was a mobile dwelling place designed and decorated by God. Notice the detail of the materials to be used, the size and dimensions of the Tent and its furnishings. Not only is God a Creator, He is a designer too, using an array of materials, textures, and colors.

So, why would God hang curtains in His Tabernacle, His dwelling place among men? In chapter 33 we get to listen in on another conversation between Adonai and Moses. Moses requests, “Please, show me Your glory!” Adonai’s response, “You cannot see My face, for no man can see Me and live (vs. 18-20).”

The curtains were designed to provide protection for man, privacy to God. No man could look upon His glory and live. No man could look upon His face and survive. The curtains provided a barrier between God and man. Notice the use of the terms “beam” and “boards”, “gold” and “silver”, are used. The curtains were not some lightweight sheers to allow light to filter in or allow a silhouette of God to be seen. They were made of “fine woven linen” and “goat hair.” There were “first sets” and “second sets.” There were “overlapping” curtains, but all were designed so that the “Tabernacle may be one piece.”

There was a curtain or veil in the Temple too. What was behind the veil was accessible only by the High Priest, once a year. This is what is taking place in the book of Luke 1:5-25; 56-66 where the apostle conveys the angelic message to Zechariah.

Here is the symbolic significance of the curtain to a follower of Yeshua Messiah. We find these words in Hebrews 10:19-20, “Therefore, brothers and sisters, we have boldness to enter into the Holies by the blood of Yeshua. He inaugurated a new and living way for us through the curtain—that is, the flesh. We have a Kohen Gadol over God’s household.”

At Jesus’ crucifixion, the veil of the Temple was rent or torn in two, from top to bottom. Man would have torn it bottom to top. Only a supernatural act of God would tear it from top to bottom (Matthew 27: 51a). There is no barrier of a curtain between man and God. In His death, Yeshua tore the veil and became the bridge for us, back to God.

I hope that you have looked through the open curtain and accessed the living God. He bids you to call on His name and you shall be saved (Romans 10:13).

Action: I have unblocked access to God, and I will come to Him and call on Him!

Yield: I will open the curtain and give myself to God.

Engage: Reconciliation is engaging with God.

Relationship: God bids you to open your heart to Him.

Prayer: Father, we have total access to You. There is nothing blocking my access to You. Help all of my friends to come to You and call out to You. You promise to hear our call! Amen.
