More Than Enough

Prayer: Father, oh that I possess the attitude of being a cheerful giver. Help me to manage well the resources which You have entrusted to me. Amen.

Reading: Exodus 36 key: vs. 4-5
Then all the skilled men who were doing all the work of the Sanctuary came, one by one from the work he was doing, and said to Moses, “The people are bringing much more than enough for the work of this construction that Adonai has commanded to be done.”

Attention: What a problem to have. There is not a faith leader around or pastor, who would not like to come before the people entrusted to them and report, “I must ask you to stop blessing a project fund. We just cannot handle anymore.” But, this is exactly the report which all the skilled craftsmen brought to Moses. “The people are bringing in abundance, the resources requested of them.”

Notice, this offering was called a “free will offering,” meaning they were not under compulsion or demand. The people were compelled by the Holy Spirit to give like the New Testament community in the book of Acts where it is recorded, “Now the whole group of those who believed was one in heart and mind (complete unity). No one would say anything he owned was his own, but they had everything in common” (4:32).

This is a vital character quality. When we look at our resources as belonging to Adonai and we have the responsibility for managing the resources which are not our own, we have a much easier time releasing those resources. They were never ours to begin with. They were God’s.

Ownership is the key. If God owns us, He owns everything which is given to us to manage for His kingdom. If we own our resources, we tend to feel that those resources belong solely to us and our use.  Ownership again, is the key.

Action: I choose to allow the Holy Spirit to transform my attitude regarding ownership.

Yield: I cannot give what is not mine, but I can easily give away what does not belong to me but to God.

Engage: I choose to engage with the Holy Spirit in embracing a lifestyle of generosity.

Relationship: I choose to be generous as Adonai is generous.

Prayer: Father, thank You for the example of the Hebrew nation and the new spiritual community in Acts, who didn’t consider their resources to be their own, but gave with a generous heart. May I also develop a generous attitude for Your kingdom. Amen.

Memory Verse: 2 Corinthians 9:7
Let each one give as he has decided in his heart, not grudgingly or under compulsion—for God loves a cheerful giver.
