A Perpetual Statute

Prayer: Father, I am prepared to listen and learn this morning. I pray by Your Holy Spirit, teach me about Your ways. Amen.

Reading: Leviticus 3 key: vs. 17
17 “It is to be a perpetual statute throughout your generations in all your dwellings, that you must eat neither fat nor blood.”

Attention: Words have meaning. There used to be a saying in the faith circles I was raised in which went something like, “God said it, I believe it, that settles it.” In their minds, any issue was settled, no room for discussion. For a people who said they believed Scripture, we sure lived as if we didn’t believe it. It was more like, “God said it, but He didn’t really mean it (wink).”

Today, a lifestyle of targeting a Scripture to represent the entire character of God is pervasive in our culture. Today we also like “key” words. We place them at the end of posts and use key words to find information or people.

In our Scriptural focus, there appears a word which is highly representative of Adonai and His Covenants and His Word. It is the word, “perpetual.” Perpetual means ongoing and never ends. Notice that Adonai says the duration of (this statute) is “throughout your generations.” Another way of saying throughout your generations is “all” generations. The addition of the letter “s” is significant.

Another word associated with perpetual is “eternal.” The prophet Isaiah wrote this, “Have you not known? Have you not heard? Adonai is the eternal God, the Creator of the ends of the earth” (40:28). The eternal nature of God is spoken of throughout Scripture. The eternal nature of His Word the Bible and His covenants mirror His eternal nature. Why wouldn’t we expect that the things of an eternal God would also be eternal in nature, perpetual and ongoing?

Action: I embrace the perpetual and eternal nature of Adonai and His Word.

Yield: I yield to the supernatural nature of God. He is God and I am not.

Engage: I engage in life with Adonai through the Holy Spirit.

Relationship: I am in relationship with Adonai when I embrace His eternal nature.

Prayer: Father, thank You that Your covenants are perpetual, extending to future generations. Your Word is eternal as is Your being. Blessings, amen.

Memory Verse: Psalm 119:89-90
89 Forever, Adonai,
Your word stands firm in the heavens.
90 Your faithfulness endures from generation to generation.
You established the earth, and it stands.
