Prayer: Father, You require obedience. May I be obedient in following Your Word, hearing Your Word and listening to Your Word. Amen.
Reading: Numbers 20 key: vs. 7
7 Adonai spoke to Moses saying,
Attention: Did you ever as a child receive instruction from your parents, and you didn’t follow it? What were the consequences? Some lessons are harder to learn than others. When I was young, we were taught to write the alphabet in block letters and then in cursive. We were taught to tie shoestrings and a single or double knot tie. We were taught the care and feeding of our pets. Following or not following instructions has varying consequences.
Moses had been given specific instructions in Egypt on how to use his staff or rod. He had been given highly specific, detailed instructions on the building and crafting of the Tent of Meeting, the Ark of the Covenant and all the furnishings. To Moses was given the Ten Commandments.
Once again, he was given specific instructions, “speak” to the rock. Instead of speaking, Moses decided to strike the rock. Through all the commands of Adonai, Moses had been obedient. Why would he elect suddenly to take matters into his own hands and not follow Adonai’s command? He had suffered a great deal subversive action from Miriam, Aaron, and the entire Hebrew community. I believe he was growing weary as was Adonai over this obstinate people to whom Moses was given charge.
Regardless, this act of disobedience cost him dearly. Adonai declared, “Because you did not trust in Me so as to esteem Me as holy in the eyes of Bnei-Yisrael, therefore you will not bring this assembly into the land that I have given to them.” Moses would not be allowed to lead the Hebrew nation into the promised land. We will see in the book of Deuteronomy, that Moses is allowed to see the land from a distance, but never enter it.
Action: I choose to be obedient to Adonai’s Word.
Yield: I give over my right to do as I please when Adonai has commanded differently.
Engage: I choose to engage with Adonai in the journey of knowing Him.
Relationship: I give control of my life to the Holy Spirit.
Prayer: Father, guide me and instruct me in Your ways through Your Word and Spirit. Help me to be obedient. Amen.
Memory Verse: Psalms 37:3-5

Dwell in the land, feed on faithfulness.
4 Delight yourself in Adonai,
and He will give you the requests of your heart.
5 Commit your way to Adonai.
Trust in Him, and He will do it.
