Borders

Prayer: Father, I ask for wisdom today. Amen.

Reading: Numbers 34 key: vs. 12
12 From there the border will go down along the Jordan, ending at the Dead Sea. This will be your territory with its surrounding borders.”

Attention: Several years ago, I began watching documentaries on the Discovery and History channels. I found a series titled How the States got their shape How the States got Their Shapes – YouTube. I have provided a link to the series which is on YouTube. You may find it interesting to discover what forces and influences led to each state establishing its borders.

In chapter 34 of Numbers, Adonai outlines to Moses the borders of His Promised Land to Bnei-Yisrael. As we have already discovered in chapter 32, before Bnei-Yisrael even set out to cross the Jordan, the sons of Reuben and Gad decided that the land bordering the promised region, was good enough for them and they approached Moses about settling there.

It baffles my mind that they would have come that far to stop short of God’s promised best. So, by virtue of default, the borders are already changed by man. Altering what God commands has never worked good for man. It is called compromise and compromise they did.

Many Christians do not study the Old Testament for a variety of reasons. Without study of the Old Testament, one will not understand the ongoing border disputes between Israel and neighboring Palestinians. I’m not going to outline the issue here, other than to direct you to read Genesis 15-22. What is being played out today in Israel, was established by Abraham and Sarah centuries ago. If you do not understand these scriptures, you will not understand current middle east struggles.

Borders have a purpose. They define a country, and every country protects its borders. Years ago, I traveled to Portugal, and I was considering living in the Algarve of Portugal. I investigated the requirements to be a resident of Portugal. The primary requirements were showing proof of a given amount of monthly income, establishing a bank account, and purchasing a medical insurance plan. Why would they require that? They didn’t want people moving to Portugal and become wards of the state. To do so would create a financial burden on the nation.

May we also be concerned about border issues which impact our states and our nations. May we pray for the nation of Israel and the century old disputes which it faces.

Application: I choose to support borders and legal options for entry into our country.

Yield: I choose to acknowledge the borders directed by Adonai.

Engage: I choose to engage in prayer on behalf of Israel.

Relationship: I choose to be in active, full relationship with the Holy Spirit.

Prayer: Father, borders are real issues. May they be respected and enforced legally for the nation of Israel. What You have promised, will be fully realized. Amen.

Memory Verse: 2 Timothy 1:6-7
For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands. For God has not given us a spirit of timidity but of power and love and self-discipline.
