Prayer: Father, may I discover who You are through the voice of Moses. I am prepared to listen and learn. Amen.
Reading: Deuteronomy 2 key: vs. 7
7 For Adonai your God has blessed you in all the work of your hand—He has known your wanderings through this great wilderness. These 40 years Adonai your God has been with you—you have lacked nothing.”’
Attention: When you are younger in years, unless someone tells you about the last forty years, you have no awareness, no information on which to base your concept of who God (Adonai) is.
My dad passed this past February of 2023. One of my greatest memories was the two days we spent together, driving a U-Haul truck from Kent, Washington down to La Habra, California. I was twenty-five at the time and heading to college. My dad shared with me the story of his family growing up and his move to Wichita, Kansas when he married my mother. I wonder many times if that moment of intimate sharing would have ever happened any other way. He shared with me the tough times about our family’s move to Washington State in the early 1960’s. How with an economic downturn, they lost the home they had bought. I remember those first few years relocating to Washington. Dad worked all the overtime he could to recover financially and make ends meet.
Moses is telling a new generation about the past forty years and the struggles their parents faced. They are facing a new opportunity in a new land which God (Adonai) has given them. Will they learn from their parents’ mistakes or repeat them?
Imagine setting out on a journey to a land unknown without their parents. They are being asked to do something their parents could not achieve. We quite possibly have young adults who are mourning the loss of parents. Remember, none of their parents were allowed to enter the promised land because of a lack of faith in Adonai.
Moses’ encouraging words, “these 40 years Adonai your God has been with you—you have lacked nothing.” I can say the same for my past 40 years. I have lacked nothing; God has supplied all my needs. He will supply your needs too, if you place your trust in Him, you will lack for nothing.
Action: I choose today to place my confidence and trust in Adonai for my future.
Yield: I choose to give over to Adonai, all my fear about the future.
Engage: I choose to engage in a lifestyle of faith and obedience to Adonai.
Relationship: I choose to live in full intimate relationship with Adonai.
Prayer: Father, I benefit from knowing the history the spiritual journeys of my forefathers and parents. Thank You for parents of faith. May my children see my faith and choose to follow You. Amen.
Memory Verse: Psalm 34:10
10 Fear Adonai, His kedoshim,
For those who fear Him lack nothing.
