The Tone of Your Words

Prayer: Father, the tone of our words and the inflection of our voice tells You of our heart for You. May I be ever grateful for the cross and the blood which was spilled for me on Calvary. Amen.

Reading: Deuteronomy 5 key: vs. 25-26
25 Adonai heard the tone of your words when you spoke to me, and Adonai said to me, ‘I have heard the tone of the words that this people has spoken to you—they have done well in all they have spoken. 26 If only there were such a heart in them to fear Me and keep all My mitzvot always, so that it might go well with them and with their children forever!

Attention: There are two key statements declared in this chapter. The first by Moses tells us about the covenant which Adonai cut with “us.” Who is the “us” which Moses is speaking of? The covenant was cut with Abram and the nation which would follow from his seed. The uniqueness of this covenant is that is perpetual and would extend eternally in nature. The covenant was extended to Abram and the future generations of his family which included Moses and the new generation which was about to cross the Jordan River and enter the Promised Land.

Another discovery is found in verse 21b, “This day we have seen that God speaks with man, and yet he keeps on living.” Up till this event, Adonai had only spoken to one man and through one man. The nation was allowed to watch and see Adonai from afar and lived to tell about it. God showed “His glory and His greatness, and we have heard His voice.”

Does God still speak today? I have witnessed via television natural events like Mt. Saint Helens blowing off. I have seen a tornado in person and lived through a violent earthquake. Was God amid those events? I cannot say for sure. However, I have heard the voice of God. I experience His presence daily. As New Testament followers, we can speak with God, hear His voice (John 10:27) and experience His presence (Matthew 28: 20b).

A personal relationship with the Divine includes hearing God, speaking with God and staying in His presence. Just as the tone of the words of the new generation were heard by Adonai, the tone or our words reveals our heart to Him.

Action: I choose to hear, listen, speak with and stay in the presence of the living God Adonai.

Yield: I choose to give all my love, heart, mind and soul to Adonai.

Engage: I choose to engage with the Holy Spirit every day.

Relationship: I choose to be in full relationship with Adonai.

Prayer: Father, I thank You that I can talk with You, share my concerns with You, and live in Your presence all the time. Thank You for the assurance that You will never leave me. Amen.

Memory Verse: Jeremiah 29:12-13
12 “Then you will call on Me, and come and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. 13 You will seek Me and find Me, when you will search for Me with all your heart.
