Prayer: Father, may I choose to listen, obey and follow You all the days of my life! Amen.
Reading: Deuteronomy 6 key: vs. 1-2
“Now this is the commandment, the statutes and ordinances that Adonai your God commanded to teach you to do in the land you are crossing over to possess— 2 so that you might fear Adonai your God, to keep all His statutes and mitzvot that I am commanding you and your son and your son’s son all the days of your life, and so that you may prolong your days.
Attention: With all our medical and technological advances we are told that the end goal is to lengthen our mortality and increase our quality of life.
Did you know that God’s Word gives us a formula which promises long life? The solution comes in obedience, “keeping all His statutes and mitzvot (commandments) and sandwiched in between all the commandments is this promise, “Honor your father and your mother just as Adonai your God commanded you, so that your days may be long and it may go well with you (Deuteronomy 5:16 & Exodus 20:12).” Do you want a long life? Adonai tells us this one commandment with a promise, “Honor your father and your mother.”
We have recently passed the day in May in which we celebrate our mothers. My mother is still living, my father has passed, so, I make an extra effort to see and honor my mother. Father’s Day is approaching, and I will honor my father’s memory. May we not only celebrate our father’s but may we “honor” them. The scripture doesn’t say to honor them if they deserve it. We are told regardless, to honor them. May we also take the opportunity to honor our heavenly Father who gave us this insight. He is our Creator and the maker of our soul.
Action: I choose to honor and celebrate my earthly father and my heavenly Father this Father’s Day!
Yield: I yield my rights unto the One who has all Authority.
Engage: I choose to engage in honoring my mother and father.
Relationship: I choose to stay in close intimate relationship with Adonai.
Prayer: Father, I praise You for my mother and father. I pray Your blessing upon my mother today. May she praise You for giving her children who love You. Amen.
