Prayer: Father, help me to see through Your Word, that my choices and actions bring blessing or a curse. Open my eyes and my heart to receive Your instruction. Amen.
Reading: Deuteronomy 11 key: vs. 26-28
26 “See, I am setting before you today a blessing and a curse— 27 the blessing, if you listen to the mitzvot of Adonai your God that I am commanding you today, 28 but the curse, if you do not listen to the mitzvot of Adonai your God, but turn from the way I am commanding you today, to go after other gods you have not known.
Attention: I’ll never forget the first day of a Psychology of Christian Education class I attended as part of the Christian Education curriculum I was majoring in. The instructor handed out a document which contained 20 questions. He declared to us that we were looking at our final exam. Every question contained some aspect of what He wanted us to know by the semester’s end. When the semester final date came, we would each receive the same document with four questions numbers circled. This was a blue book test, and we would have to write for one hour on three of the four questions which were circled. If we wanted an A grade, we needed to know the information for all the questions. If a lower grade was acceptable, then only study a portion of the material. Obviously, it would require a diligent amount of self-study. The thing I appreciated was this; the professor told us up front about what he wanted us to know for the final exam. There were no tricks or double meaning, or double negatives designed to confuse the examinee.
Adonai through Moses’ was very specific. Here are the options: blessing or curse. Here is how you receive My blessings. However, “if you do not listen to the mitzvot (commandments) of Adonai your God but turn from the way I am commanding you today, to go after other gods you have not known,” you will receive My curse. We do not hear this preached today.
If you are among those who do not embrace the Old Testament as being applicable for today, then I offer you a New Testament example. Under the influence of the Holy Spirit, Paul says this about the Lord’s table to the Corinthian community of faith, “For the one who eats and drinks without recognizing the body, eats and drinks judgement on himself. For this reason, many among you are weak and sick, and quite a few have died (1 Corinthians 11:29-30).” tlv.
Adonai is very straight forward about His commandments and ordinances like the Lord’s supper. Have we as confessing followers of Yeshua, followed and obeyed even the observance of the Lord’s supper? I have seen it abused many times. I encourage you to heed His warnings.
Action: Knowing the mitzvot of Adonai, I choose today to heed and obey His commands.
Yield: I choose to listen to the mitzvot of Adonai.
Engage: I choose to engage in the obedience to Adonai’s laws and commandments.
Relationship: I choose to have full relationship in the Spirit with Adonai.
Prayer: Father, give me ears to listen, eyes to see and a heart to respond to Your Word. Amen.
Memory Verse: 1 Corinthians 11: 31-32
31 For if we were judging ourselves thoroughly, we wouldn’t be coming under judgment. 32 But when we are judged, we are being disciplined by the Lord so that we might not be condemned along with the world.
