Do Not Twist Justice

Prayer: Father, justice is a catch phrase today which does not look like Your justice. I pray for wisdom and revelation. I want my justice to look like Your justice. Amen.

Reading: Deuteronomy 16 key: vs. 18-20
18 “Judges and officers you are to appoint within all your gates that Adonai your God is giving you, according to your tribes; and they are to judge the people with righteous judgment. 19 You are not to twist justice—you must not show partiality or take a bribe, for a bribe blinds the eyes of the wise and distorts the words of the righteous. 20 Justice, justice you must pursue, so that you may live and possess the land that Adonai your God is giving you.

Attention: Have you ever had to appear before a judge, or ever accompanied someone who was summoned to appear in court? It is intimidating. Our system of justice claims to be blind and non-biased, but this is a tough proposition for man. Adonai is just, because this is His nature, His character. Sovereignly, He already knows the truth.

I find it interesting that Adonai initiated the appointing of “Judges and officers” for the purpose of adjudicating an assortment of legal issues which included but were not limited to property rights in Leviticus 25, unintentional murder and sanctuary cities in Numbers 35, or personal property including animal in Exodus 21-23. Apart from the wisdom of Adonai, how can a man or woman, equitably apply justice in every situation?

Adonai specifically implored those who would be appointed, not to “twist justice, show partiality or take a bribe.” The standard was high.

We place a lot of authority and give a lot of authority to our judges. Authority which is easy to abuse. Unless man recognizes his authority comes from Adonai, he or she is already void of the foundation necessary to accomplish the standard set by Adonai.

May we come to appoint all our judges and leaders based on their allegiance to the Supreme God, Adonai and the foundation of scripture. The foundation from which they will judge and adjudicate is vitally important. For Adonai is just, and from Him flows justice.

Action: I choose to embrace the scripturally given principles and standards Adonai established in the Torah and in Deuteronomy 16:19-20.

Yield: I choose to yield to the Sovereignty of Adonai to establish justice in our courts and judges.

Engage: I choose to engage with the Sovereign in establishing justice in our lands and our communities.

Relationship: I choose relationship with the Sovereign King Yeshua.

Prayer: Father, I desire to see justice in the land which represents You and Your standards.

Memory Verse: Deuteronomy 16: 20
20 Justice, justice you must pursue, so that you may live and possess the land that Adonai your God is giving you.
