Prayer: Father, may I grow today to surrender every area of my life to Your Lordship. Amen.
Reading: Joshua 13 key: vs. 1
“Now Joshua was old and advanced in years when Adonai said to him, “You are old and getting on in years, yet very much of the land is still left to possess.” TLV
Attention: Joshua and the Hebrew nation had battled for years. Battles become exhausting and fatiguing. Joshua is now an old man, “advanced in years,” and God is telling him, there is more left to do.
As a now seventy-year-old man, I look at my God assignments and realize, there is more to do. Our assignments may change over the years, but we still have one assignment, to know God. If you are like me, we realize that there is still more unconquered territory within me that God still wants to conquer and transform. I am still in the process of becoming who He wants me to be.
Ask God to have a face-to-face sit down with you today and ask Him to tell you what unconquered territory you still need to defeat. What habits and sins do we protect and resist allowing God to conquer? Do our mouths still need taming? Do we still gossip? Do we have addictions to all kinds of legal foods, drinks, or over-the-counter medications? Do we have control over our eyes and the content we read or see? Do we have control over our spending and consumer habits? Do we have control over our minds and thoughts?
Our relationship with God is has eternal perspective when we engage with Him and His Word every day, throughout the day. C.S. Lewis said, “Relying on God has to start all over every day, as if nothing has yet been done.” Our assignment is never finished. His work in us is never complete until we are one day in His presence!
Action: I choose to engage in the daily, ongoing process of being transformed into His image.
Yield: I choose to surrender to God’s process of transforming me into His image.
Engage: I choose to engage in the process of transformation.
Relationship: I choose to be in intimate transforming relationship with Adonai.
Prayer: Father, why do I find the process of being transformed so abrasive and difficult? Why am I so in love with myself, that I resist You? Renew my mind and lead me in the way everlasting. Amen.
Memory Verse: Ephesians 4:22-24
“With respect to your former lifestyle, you are to lay aside the old self corrupted by its deceitful desires, be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and put on the new self—created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.” TLV
