Prayer: Father, Your servant is prepared to listen and learn from Your instruction. Speak to my heart Lord. Amen.
Reading: Joshua 14 key: vs. 7-9
“I was 40 years old when Moses the servant of Adonai sent me from Kadesh-barnea to spy out the land, and I brought him back word as it was in my heart. Nevertheless, my fellows that went up with me made the heart of the people melt with fear, but I fully followed Adonai my God. So Moses swore on that day saying: ‘Surely the land on which your foot has trodden will be an inheritance to you and to your children forever, because you have fully followed I was 40 years old when Moses the servant of Adonai sent me from Kadesh-barnea to spy out the land, and I brought him back word as it was in my heart. Nevertheless, my fellows that went up with me made the heart of the people melt with fear, but I fully followed Adonai my God. So Moses swore on that day saying: ‘Surely the land on which your foot has trodden will be an inheritance to you and to your children forever, because you have fully followed Adonai my God.” TLV
Attention: Have you ever observed a dog obedience school in session? It is fascinating to me how cued in the dog is to its trainer. The level of concentration is astounding. I have wondered if the people who are training their dogs use the same techniques on their children.
The character of Caleb as documented by Joshua is that Caleb “fully followed Adonai my God.” Remember, of the spies which Moses sent out, only Caleb and Joshua returned with favorable reports. For Caleb’s faithfulness, Moses told him he would be rewarded with land in the promised land.
So, now after 45 years, Caleb is rewarded with the land he was promised. At 85, he says, “I am still as strong today as I was in the day that Moses sent me—as my strength was then, so is my strength now, for war and for going out and coming in.”
I looked up the meaning of the name Caleb, in Hebrew it means, “dog.” No wonder he was so loyal and faithful. We all could benefit from a character like Caleb.
Action: I choose to be loyal to Adonai and like Caleb, keep my eyes focused on God.
Yield: I choose to yield my life, my heart, my all to Adonai.
Engage: I choose to engage in the process of God-transformation.
Relationship: I choose to be loyal and faithful to Adonai.
Prayer: Father, may I grow to be a Caleb in my loyalty and faithfulness to You. Amen.
Memory Verse: Isaiah 40:28-31
“Have you not known? Have you not heard? Adonai is the eternal God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not grow tired or weary. His understanding is unsearchable. He gives strength to the weary, and to one without vigor He adds might. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall, but they who wait for Adonai will renew their strength. They will soar up with wings as eagles. They will run, and not grow weary. They will walk, and not be faint.” TLV
