God sent an evil spirit

Prayer: Father, it is true, You fight our battles. I declare allegiance to You. Amen.

Reading: Judges 9 key: vs. 22-24 “After Abimelech had ruled over Israel for three years, God sent an evil spirit between Abimelech and the lords of Shechem. So the men of Shechem dealt treacherously with Abimelech—in order that the violence done to Jerubbaal’s 70 sons might come due, so their blood might be laid on their brother Abimelech who slew them, and on the lords of Shechem who strengthened his hands to slay his brothers.” TLV

Attention: All throughout the book of Joshua, we witnessed how Jehovah God, Adonai “delivered” the enemy into the children of Bnei-Yisrael’s hand.

Today we witness the same action by a benevolent God. Moses was told and he relayed the message from Adonai which we find in Deuteronomy 20:4 “For Adonai your God is the One who goes with you, to fight for you against your enemies to save you.’ Not only does He fight with us against our enemies, the apostle Paul told the Romans followers of Jesus, “Never take your own revenge, loved ones, but give room for God’s wrath—for it is written, “Vengeance is Mine; I will repay,” says Adonai” (Romans 12:19).

In today’s reading, we see God sending “an evil spirit,” which resulted in the vengeance which Jotam sought over the killing of 70 brothers. A divine rift was caused between Abimelech and the lords of Shechem, which eventuated in king Abimelech’s death. The vengeance was brought by Adonai against wickedness and for the house of Gideon.

Action: I choose to defer to God instead of seeking vengeance on my enemies.

Yield: I choose to give up the right to seek vengeance against my enemies.

Engage: I choose to engage with the Holy Spirit in righting wrongs.

Relationship: I choose to always stay in close obedient relationship with Adonai.

Prayer: Father, I like to get revenge on my enemies. I choose today to hand vengeance over to You. In the name of Yeshua. Amen.

Memory Verse: Romans 12:19 “Never take your own revenge, loved ones, but give room for God’s wrath—for it is written, “Vengeance is Mine; I will repay,” says Adonai.” TLV
