Prayer: Father, Your servant and slave is ready to learn. Teach me today Your way. Amen.
Reading: 1 Samuel 12 key: vs. 8-9 “When Jacob entered Egypt and your fathers cried out to Adonai, then Adonai sent Moses and Aaron who brought your fathers out of Egypt and settled them in this place. But they forgot Adonai their God, so He gave them over into the hand of Sisera, captain of the army of Hazor, into the hand of the Philistines, and into the hand of the king of Moab, who fought against them.” TLV
Attention: There is a formula in scripture for securing God’s judgement and wrath. Forget God and He will eventually give you over to your sin.
We see the apostle Paul use the phrase “gave them over” in both a corporate and individual sense in the book of Romans chapter one. Paul writes, “God gave them over in the evil desires of their hearts to impurity (vs. 24),” “For this reason God gave them up to shameful passions. (vs. 25a),” and “And just as they did not see fit to recognize God, God gave them over to a depraved mind, to do what is not fitting (vs. 28).” Each action by man and woman which is opposed to God and His commandments, secures His judgement and wrath just as it did during Samuel’s reign. He rebukes the people of Israel for forgetting God and going their own way.
They corporately and individually sought an earthly king to replace God’s Kingship. Samuel let them know that God had given them what they wanted in Saul. However, if both king and the people of Israel did not “fear Adonai and worship Him with in truth with all your heart…But …persisted in acting wickedly, you will be swept away, both you and your king.” Stay tuned for the rest of the story which plays out over time in a series of good kings and bad kings and a couple of exiles.
God is merciful and long-suffering. However, eventually, He gives us over to our desires as we forget Him and His commandments. He demands our undivided love, devotion, and worship. Is your heart divided? I encourage you to allow the Holy Spirit to reset your heart, will, and love. Align or realign your heart, mind, and soul with God and His commandments, or suffer the consequences.
Action: I choose today to remember God, align fully with God, and worship Him!
Yield: I choose today to submit my mind, body, and heart fully unto God.
Engage: I choose today to engage with the Holy Spirit in aligning my heart, mind, and soul with God.
Relationship: I choose today to unite in full intimate relationship with a Holy God.
Prayer: Father, I praise You for being Holy. I align with You and Your commandments. I choose not to allow the world to set the narrative on who You are. Your scriptures declare who You are and demand my allegiance to You and Your commands. Amen.
Memory Verse: Romans 12:2 “Do not be conformed to this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may discern what is the will of God—what is good and acceptable and perfect.” TLV
