Prayer: Father, open my eyes to the lies which our political leaders deluge us with. It is said that a lie repeated enough times begins to be accepted as the truth. You are truth. Yeshua was truth embodied. Help me to discern the truth. Please expose the lies and the liars. Amen.
Reading: 1 Samuel 22 key: vs. 7-8 “Saul said to his courtiers standing about him, “Listen now, Benjamites! Will the son of Jesse give every one of you fields and vineyards? Will he make all of you captains of thousands and captains of hundreds? Yet all of you have conspired against me, and there was nobody disclosing to me when my son makes a covenant with the son of Jesse! None of you is sorry for me or discloses to me that my son has stirred up my servant against me to lie in ambush—as is the case today?” TLV
Attention: If there is a story in the Bible which seems very contemporary, it is today’s account of how King Saul sees David. He confronts the Kohen Ahimelech about his conversation with David. He is so jealous and paranoid of David, that he is sure that Ahimelech and David have schemed together against him. “Why have you conspired against me—you and the son of Jesse—by giving him bread and a sword, and by inquiring of God for him, that he should rise against me by lying in ambush, as is the case today?”
Have you heard anything like this in the news over the past couple of years? Allegations about trying to get an election overturned, or how about the alleged January 6 Capitol riot? Both events are an exercise in how both sides can view an incident totally opposite. Who is telling the truth? Who is telling lies?
We even see a whistle blower in today’s passage. A man named Doeg appears from Saul’s courtiers, alleging “I saw the son of Jesse coming to Nob—to Ahimelech son of Ahitub—and he inquired of Adonai for him, gave him provisions and gave him the sword of Goliath the Philistine.” He spoke as one having firsthand knowledge of the conversation of David and Ahimelech. Did they conspire together against Saul?
David is the man on the run. He has not made any threats or attempts on king Saul’s life. Regardless, Saul has Ahimelech, ‘85 men who wore the linen ephod,’ and the entire city of Nob decimated by the edge of the sword, “men and women, children and infants, oxen, asses, and sheep.”
Men like Saul have other men do their dirty work.
I encourage you today to pray for the exposing of lies and corruption. Make it a daily part of your prayers. I gave you two examples, there are many more.
It took years of being on the run and not making any attempts on Sauls life for David to prove to Saul, he meant him no harm. Sauls out of control jealousy and defiance of Adonai’s laws, cost him his throne and life.
Action: I choose today to pray for exposure of lies and corruption on both sides of the aisle and truth to prevail.
Yield: I choose today to yield to the Holy Spirit discernment of the lies and corruption.
Engage: I choose today to engage with the Holy Spirit in exposing evil when I see it.
Relationship: I choose today to stay in close relationship with the Holy Spirit.
Prayer: Father, You are the Father of truth. Yeshua is the embodiment of truth. Even Pilate asked Yeshua what is truth? Pilate did not see truth standing right in front of him. Help me to expose evil as an assignment from You. Amen.
Memory Verse: Ephesians 5:11 “Take no part in the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them—.” TLV
