Dishonored in Death

Prayer: Father, may I honor You in all that I do. Amen.

Reading: 1 Samuel 31 key: vs. 8-10 “It was the next day, when the Philistines came to strip the slain, that they found Saul and his three sons fallen on Mount Gilboa. So they cut off his head and stripped off his armor, and sent them throughout the land of the Philistines, to spread the good news to the house of their idols and to the people. Then they put his armor in the house of the Ashtaroth and fastened his body to the wall of Beth-shan. TLV

Attention: Just as Samuel the prophet prophesied, Saul and his three sons die in battle the next day. However, Samuel did not prophesy how Saul’s body would be treated. Why should we be surprised that the Philistines would do to Saul what David did to Goliath? Notice, they “cut off his head and stripped off his armor and sent it throughout the land… to spread the good news, to the house of their idols and to the people.” Then they put his armor in their house of worship and hung his body on a wall. The revenge of their god on full display.

Saul had not only disgraced God, but he was also disgraced by God. He was the fallen anointed of Adonai. The epitaph of his life was on full display to the Hebrews and Philistines.

How do we want our final epitaph to read? Our epitaph is written by the choices we make and the obedience we have to God. Do we honor Him with our life and our words? Are our words and life congruent with scripture? Do we learn from the mistakes of others, or do we have to continue in the cycle of a rebellious lifestyle?

Let’s choose obedience to the Lord God Adonai.

Action: I choose today to repent and reconcile with the Lord God Adonai.

Yield: I choose to give over my rights to the Lordship of the Holy Spirit.

Engage: I choose to engage in a lifestyle subordinate to the Holy Spirit.

Relationship: I choose to live in an intimate relationship with Adonai.

Prayer: Father, I choose life with You, submitted to You. Order my steps today. Amen.

Memory Verse: Psalms 19:14 “May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable before You, Adonai, my Rock and my Redeemer.” TKV
