Prayer: Father, Your timing arrives in Your choosing. Please help me be patient according to Your plan. Amen.
Reading: 2 Samuel 5 key: vs. 1-5 “Then all the tribes of Israel came to David at Hebron and spoke saying, “Here we are, your own flesh and blood. Even before, when Saul was king over us, it was you who led Israel out and back. Also Adonai said to you, ‘You will shepherd My people Israel and be ruler over Israel.’” So all the elders of Israel came to the king at Hebron, and King David cut a covenant with them at Hebron before Adonai. Then they anointed David king over Israel. David was 30 years old when he began to reign and he reigned 40 years. In Hebron he reigned over Judah seven years and six months, and in Jerusalem he reigned 33 years over all Israel and Judah.” TLV
Attention: There is much conjecture about David’s age when he was first anointed by Samuel. We know that he was the youngest among seven brothers. If we use as variables David’s birth order and his oldest three brothers as soldiers, then we know the youngest of the three was at least twenty (age of conscription), then David must be a young teen. We know his age at the time of his becoming king over all Israel as thirty-seven. So, it had taken at least twenty years since first being anointed by Samuel, to coronation as king over all Israel.
There is no urgency in the Kingdom of God. Perhaps that is the significance of Paul’s charge of instruction to a young Timothy, not to lay hands on someone too hastily, “I solemnly charge you—before God and Messiah Yeshua and the chosen angels—to observe these things without taking sides, doing nothing out of favoritism. Do not lay hands on anyone hastily or take part in the sins of others—keep yourself pure” (1 Timothy 5:21-22).
There is no hurry to confer a leadership position to anyone. There was not with David or Timothy. There is never a hurry or urgency with us. There is a crisis of leadership because of lack of qualification, but never does a crisis require us to anoint prematurely. David was anointed by the selection of God’s spirit guiding Samuel.
Action: I choose today not to be quick to anoint, but to be guided by the Holy Spirit in laying hands of anyone.
Yield: I choose today to yield to the Holy Spirit in the anointing of anyone to ministry.
Engage: I choose to engage in the leading of the Holy Spirit regarding anointing leadership.
Relationship: I choose today to live in intimate relationship with the Ruach Elohim.
Prayer: Father, a great example in the life of David and his anointing by Samuel. May I not be anxious or hasty to anoint new spiritual leadership. Amen.
Memory Verse: 1 Timothy 5:22 “Do not lay hands on anyone hastily or take part in the sins of others—keep yourself pure.” TLV
