Listening To Wisdom

Prayer: Father, surround me with people who are rich with Your wisdom. Thank You for men and women who have spoken into my life. Amen.

Reading: 2 Samuel 20 key: vs. 16-17 “Then a wise woman cried out from the city, “Listen! Listen! Please tell Joab to come over here that I may speak with him.” When he approached her, the woman asked, “Are you Joab?” “I am,” he answered. Then she said to him, “Listen to the words of your handmaid.” “I’m listening,” he answered.” TLV

Attention: When I wrote the book, The Widow’s Project, I reflected on widows who had impacted my life. One widow whom I recall affectionately, led the youth group at my local church. Her name was Annie, we called her “Grannie Annie.” She adopted us all as her grandchildren. She just loved on us and listened to us and shared her wisdom.

Today, Joab listened to a wise woman and the City of David was spared the deaths of many. Her wisdom caused Joab to declare to her the issue and the resolve which would cause no other collateral damage. There was a dissident named Sheba whom Joab was seeking to silence. The unnamed woman, assured Joab that Sheba’s head would be “thrown over the wall.”

The death of one, spared the death of many. This incident was the overflow of the division which Absalom had created. Joab’s actions secured his position as commander of David’s army and gave peace to Israel for the remainder of David’s reign.

God has wise men and women whom He uses to speak His wisdom into our lives. Just as He uses scripture inspired by the Holy Spirit. These sources of God’s wisdom are available to us if we will listen like Joab listened.

Action: I choose today to listen to God’s voice through His Word and the wise counsel of others.

Yield: I choose to yield to the voice of God from all its sources.

Engage: I choose to engage with the Holy Spirit in the art of listening to His voice.

Relationship: I choose to live in holy, intimate relationship with God.

Prayer: Father, open my ears to hear Your wisdom. Thank You for the wisdom of Your Word. I look for the serendipities of life which You send my way. Amen.

Memory Verse: Proverbs 19:20 “Listen to advice and accept instruction, so that in the end you may be wise.” TLV
