How Long Will You Waver

Prayer: Father, the question Elijah proposes is a question which needs to be posed to Christians today. There is wavering on so many issues. Confusion prevails. Awaken Your followers to proclaim truth. Challenge them to make a choice between You and evil. Amen.

Reading: 1 Kings 18 key: vs. 20-21 “So Ahab sent word to all the children of Israel and gathered the prophets together at Mount Carmel. Then Elijah approached all the people and said, “How long will you waver between two opinions? If Adonai is God, follow Him; but if Baal is, follow him.” But the people did not answer him, not even a word.” TLV

Attention: Adonai had this to say through the mouth of Isaiah the prophet, “Oy to those who call evil good and good evil, who present darkness as light and light as darkness, who present bitter as sweet, and sweet as bitter (Isaiah 5:20)!”

Evil in the form of false prophets, prophets of false gods, had crept into Israel. The people were being led astray, influenced by demonic forces. King Ahab and his wife were hosting and feeding the prophets of Baal (450 men) at their table. It is just like evil, to accuse good (a prophet of God) of being the one “who causes trouble for Israel (vs. 17b).

Godly men, prophets of God are being accused of the same today. Even Christian men and pastors are having a difficult time discerning who is a prophet of God or not. There is much deception and lying being perpetrated upon the world. It is imperative to know the scriptures for yourselves. Do not rely on others to tell you what the bible says. Search the scriptures daily like the Bereans to confirm what you are being taught.

Elijah proposes a plan, a contest to prove who is God and who is not. Ahab accepts the proposed contest and gathers the people. Oh, that we had an Elijah today who would take up the mantel and propose a contest which would create a no doubt demonstration of the Supreme. My concern is that even then, a sign of this proportion would not be believed.

During the time of Yeshua, “the Pharisees and Sadducees came up, and testing Yeshua, they asked Him to show them a sign from heaven. But He replied to them, “When evening comes, you say, ‘Fair weather coming, for the sky is red,’ and in the morning, ‘Stormy weather today, for the sky is red and gloomy.’ You know how to discern the appearance of the sky, but you cannot discern the signs of the times! An evil and adulterous generation clamors for a sign, yet no sign will be given to it except the sign of Jonah (Matthew 16: 1-4a).”

I anticipate that God’s answer would be the same, that we have all the signs we are going to get and we either ignore the signs we do haver, or we do not know how to interpret them. May God give us discernment.
