Who Will Entice Ahab

Prayer: Father, You are in complete control! I need never fear man who can kill the body but not the soul. Eternity is Yours. Amen.

Reading: 1 Kings 22 Key: vs. 20-22 “Then Adonai said, ‘Who will entice Ahab to go up and fall at Ramoth-gilead?’ One suggested this and another that, until a certain spirit came forward and stood before Adonai and said, ‘I will entice him.’ So Adonai asked him, ‘How?’ And he said: ‘I will go and be a deceiving spirit in the mouth of all his prophets.’ Then He said: ‘You shall entice him and shall prevail also—go and do so.’” TLV

Attention: Isn’t it comforting to know that the God we serve, Adonai Elohei-Tzva’ot, can send a deceiving spirit to mislead the evil prophets, cause confusion, give bad intel to kings and commanders in the face of war. Kings and commanders have a multitude of advisors from whom they seek advice. Bad advice brings bad results.

Good kings do not despise good prophets. They do despise yes men. Ahab was an evil king. All his prophets were advising him to go to battle. Even while being evil, he wanted a word from a prophet of Adonai. Even though he hated the prophet of Adonai, he summoned Micaiah, and he told him the truth.

Notice whose advice Ahab sought first. His choice of a false god over Adonai, sealed his demise. Adonai gave him over to the evil in his heart.

We too can struggle against the living God. Adonai said this through the mouth of Isaiah the prophet, “Oy , a sinful nation, a people weighed down with iniquity, offspring of evildoers, sons dealing corruptly! They have abandoned Adonai. They have despised Israel’s Holy One. They have turned backwards.”

May we not be guilty of abandoning Adonai or turning our backs on Him. May we seek His counsel first and forsake all other gods. May we pray against evil and expose it.

Action: I choose to align my mind, heart, and soul with Adonai.

Yield: I choose to give myself wholly to Adonai.

Engage: I choose to seek the Holy Spirit’s guidance in everything.

Relationship: I choose to live in intimate relationship with Adonai.

Prayer: Father, may I by lifestyle show my love for You, my allegiance to You, and my loyalty to You. You are Adonai and I am not. I am Your servant and slave. Amen.

Memory Verse: Isaiah 1: 4 “Oy , a sinful nation, a people weighed down with iniquity, offspring of evildoers, sons dealing corruptly! They have abandoned Adonai. They have despised Israel’s Holy One. They have turned backwards.” TLV
