Purify Me

Prayer: Father, Your desire for me is to be holy. The process of becoming holy includes the process of purification. Help me to understand Your desire and will for me. Amen.

Reading: Nehemiah 12 key: vs. 30 “After the kohanim and the Levites had purified themselves, they purified the people, the gates, and the wall.” TLV

Attention: Smith Wigglesworth is quoted as saying, “When the saint ceases to seek after holiness, purity, righteousness, truth; when he ceases to pray, stops reading the Word and gives way to carnal appetites, then it is that Satan comes.”

Notice that the process of purification comes from God transforming us from the tyranny of the flesh. It is the combination of the Spirit’s work and our engagement in prayer and studying the Word that brings sanctification and holiness.

The prophet Isaiah tells of a vision he had this way, “In the year of King Uzziah’s death, I saw Adonai sitting on a throne, high and lifted up, and the train of His robe filled the Temple. seraphim were standing above Him. Each had six wings: with two he covered his face and with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew. One called out to another, and said: “Holy, holy, holy, is Adonai-Tzva’ot! The whole earth is full of His glory.” Then the posts of the door trembled at the voice of those who called, and the House was filled with smoke. Then I said: “Oy to me! For I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips, and I am dwelling among a people of unclean lips. For my eyes have seen the King, Adonai-Tzva’ot!” Then one of the seraphim flew to me, with a glowing coal in his hand, which he had taken with tongs from the altar. He touched my mouth with it and said: “Behold, this has touched your lips. Your iniquity is taken away, and your sins atoned for” (Isaiah 6:1-7).

The act of the seraphim touching Isaiah’s lips was an act of purification. Notice that the priests of today’s text purified themselves first and then the people. The order needs to be for our spiritual leaders to be purified first. How can they minister and administer a movement towards purity if they themselves have not been engaged with the Spirit of God in His command to us, to be holy? “Just like the Holy One who called you, be holy yourselves also in everything you do. For it is written, “Kedoshim you shall be, for I am kadosh (1 Peter 1:15b-16).

May we choose to be obedient to the command of a holy God (Adonai) to be holy.

Action: I choose to be obedient to the command of God to be holy.

Yield: I choose to submit to God’s command to be holy.

Engage: I choose to engage with the Spirit of God, in the process of becoming holy, purified.

Relationship: I choose to live in holy intimate relationship with a holy God.

Prayer: Father, I desire to live in obedience to Your command to be holy. Purify my heart, mind, and soul, for Your glory. Amen.

Memory Verse: 1 Peter 1:13-16 “So brace your minds for action. Keep your balance. And set your hope completely on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Yeshua the Messiah. Like obedient children, do not be shaped by the cravings you had formerly in your ignorance. Instead, just like the Holy One who called you, be holy yourselves also in everything you do. For it is written, “Kedoshim you shall be, for I am kadosh.” TLV
