Prayer: Father, open my eyes to Your activity in my life, my community, and my nation. Amen.
Reading: Isaiah 5 key: vs. 11-13 “Woe to those who rise up early in the morning— so they may pursue liquor, who stay up late at night, until wine inflames them! Harp and lyre, tambourine and flute, and wine are at their banquets. They do not notice Adonai’s activity nor see the works of His hands. “Therefore My people are in captivity for lack of knowledge. Their honorable men are famished and their multitudes parched with thirst.” TLV
Attention: What do you think of when you see a spectacular sunrise or sunset? In my past life, I drove a school bus, which required me to be up early as I was contracted for an early morning route. During those years, I saw some spectacular sunrises, as the sun rose over the Cascade Mountains. I also lived close to a bay and park which faced west toward the Olympic Mountain range on Washington States Olympic Peninsula. From the Grand Avenue Park vantage point, I witnessed many dramatic sunsets.
Today’s key scripture claims that Adonai’s beloved Hebrew nation “do not notice Adonai’s activity nor see the works of His hands.” They no longer acknowledged God’s handiwork in creation. Which meant, they no longer acknowledge Him, exclusively as their God. They were flirting and committing adultery with other gods.
Paul the apostle in writing to the Roman community of faith, makes the same declaration, “For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men. In unrighteousness they suppress the truth, because what can be known about God is plain to them—for God has shown it to them. His invisible attributes—His eternal power and His divine nature—have been clearly seen ever since the creation of the world, being understood through the things that have been made. So people are without excuse (Romans 1:19-21).” Through God’s creative acts, they were not seeing God’s attributes or His divine nature. Through what could be clearly seen, they were oblivious.
Do we see God through His creative acts? Our culture today certainly does not see or acknowledge God’s creative acts.
One of the most awe-inspiring acts of God is the miracle of birth. I was privileged to witness the birth of my three children. To everyone who has children and have witnessed their birth, I encourage you to give the One who gives life and breath to give God the glory.
Action: I choose to give God (Adonai) the glory for His creative acts.
Yield: I choose to submit my life to the Sovereign Creative God.
Engage: I choose to engage with the Holy Spirit in acknowledging Adonai as God.
Relationship: I choose to live in intimate relationship with Adonai.
Prayer: Father, Your creative processes are amazing. I see You and acknowledge You as the author of all life. I see Your hand in all of creation. Amen.
Memory Verse: Matthew 15:7-9 “Hypocrites! Rightly did Isaiah prophesy about you, saying, ‘This people honors Me with their lips, but their heart is far from Me. And in vain they worship Me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.’” TLV
