Prayer: Father, I do not want to strive against You. Neither do I want to experience You fighting against me. You desire obedience. I desire to be obedient. Amen.
Reading: Jeremiah 21 key: vs. 5-7 “I myself will fight against you, with an outstretched hand and with a strong arm, even with anger, fury and in great wrath. I will also strike down the inhabitants of this city, both man and beast—they will die of a great pestilence.’” “Then afterward,” declares Adonai, “I will deliver King Zedekiah of Judah and his servants, as well as the people—those surviving in this city from the pestilence, the sword and the famine—into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, into the hand of their foes, yes, into the hand of those who seek their life. So he will smite them with the edge of the sword; he will not spare them, nor have pity or compassion.” TLV
Attention: This passage of scripture reminds me of the title of a 1976 Broadway Musical, “Your Hands Too Short To Box With God.” I never saw the musical, but the title has always stuck with me. Today’s passage also reminds me of the recorded night Jacob wrestled with and angel of God and limped the rest of his life (Genesis 32).
This passage also reminds me of the book of Job and the contest over his soul. We commonly look at the damage caused by the enemy of our soul and not that Satan had to come to Adonai on each account and ask permission. God was in control and always will be.
Adonai instructs Jeremiah, “I myself will fight against (Israel) you.” We can fight with God, or fight against Him. The people of Israel had betrayed God. Through their disobedience, they had declared their allegiance to other gods. God was declaring the consequences of their sin against Him.
It is a losing proposition for us to strive against God, just as it was for the Hebrew nation. It is a matter of life or death. Which do you choose? Today is a great time to declare your allegiance to God through Messiah.
Action: I choose life through Yeshua Messiah.
Yield: I choose to yield to the sovereignty of Adonai.
Engage: I choose to engage with the Holy Spirit in a lifestyle of obedience to Messiah.
Relationship: I choose obedient, intimate relationship with Adonai.
Prayer: Father, thank You for the example of Jeremiah and the striving of an entire nation against You. Amen.
Memory Verse: Galatians 5:16-17 “But I say, walk by the Ruach, and you will not carry out the desires of the flesh. For the flesh sets its desire against the Ruach, but the Ruach sets its desire against the flesh—for these are in opposition to one another, so that you cannot do what you want.” TLV
