Why?

Prayer: Father, many times I have asked You, “why?” You answer the “why” question today. May I listen to Your answer to the question. Amen.

Reading: Jeremiah 22 key: vs. 8-9 “Many nations will pass by this city, and they will say, each to his neighbor, ‘Why has Adonai done such a thing to this great city?’ Then they will answer: ‘Because they abandoned the covenant of Adonai their God, and worshipped other gods and served them.’” TLV

Attention: Do you ever wonder what the non-followers, non-identified with Adonai say when they pass by followers who are being disciplined by God? Did you notice today, it was not the Hebrews who were asking “why,” it was their neighboring pagans. And it was the neighbors who answered their own question. The judgement was because “they abandoned the covenant of Adonai their God, and worshipped other gods and served them.”

Did you catch the emphasis by Adonai about “justice and righteousness?” There were three people groups which He mentioned, “Do not mistreat or do violence to the stranger, the fatherless or the widow.” Is it possible that judgement could come on America just for our mistreatment of strangers, the fatherless or the widow?

You may answer my question with we have Federal programs for each. My question in response is this; Is God addressing His people or is He addressing the government? Is the care of the dispossessed our Federal Government’s responsibility, or is it a Kingdom Responsibility for His people who claim to be His?

One last observation. Jeremiah records these words of Adonai, “But if you will not obey these words, I swear by Myself,’ declares Adonai, ‘that this palace will become a ruin (vs. 5).” Did you notice who God swears by? He swears by “Himself.” There is no Higher power for God to declare by other than Himself.

Why would we want to compromise by serving and worshipping a lower non-deity? Why would we not want to be faithful to the Supreme God of the universe, Adonai.

Action: I declare my full allegiance to the Supreme God Adonai.

Yield: I choose to yield completely to Adonai.

Engage: I choose to engage with the Holy Spirit in remaining faithful and loyal to Adona.

Relationship: I choose to live in obedient relationship unto Adonai.

Prayer: Father, I know that in way past years, I have been disobedient and a prodigal. Since returning and repenting. I choose to live in the power of the Holy Spirit, an obedient life unto You. Amen.

Memory Verse: Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust in Adonai with all your heart, lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.” TLV
