No Death Sentence

Prayer: Father, I have much to learn, so much to learn. According to Your Word, only two have made it off this earth (to this point) without experiencing physical death, Elijah, and Enoch. They obviously were exceptional men. Teach me how to live with others who may seek my life by sharing Your Word. Amen.

Reading: Jeremiah 26 key: vs. 16-17 “Then said the princes and all the people to the kohanim and to the prophets: “No death sentence for this man! For he has spoken to us in the Name of Adonai our God.” Then some of the elders of the land rose up and addressed all the assembly of the people.” TLV

Attention: It is good to have a wise elder amongst the crowd. “The hand of Ahikam …was with Jeremiah.” Otherwise, they may have killed Jeremiah that day.

Those who are sports enthusiasts know that Canton, Ohio and Cooperstown, New York are NFL and MLB centers, respectively. The museums located in those towns are shrines to their major league elites.

The book of Hebrews, chapter 11, is called “the Hall of Faith.” Read it and you will discover the names of men and women throughout Bible history who died short of receiving the goal. The writer of Hebrews says of those named, “The world was not worthy of them! They wandered around in deserts and mountains, caves, and holes in the ground. And all these, though commended for their faith, did not receive what was promised— because God had provided something better for us, so that only with us would they reach perfection (vs. 38-40).” They were not perfect people. Just people who believed and trusted Adonai to deliver on His promise, to be with Him. Perfection would be delayed till that time when they were joined with God.

Jeremiah was not perfect either, but He was selected and anointed by God to deliver His message. Unlike Jonah, Jeremiah was humble and gracious. His grace poured in tears for his people, God’s people. For those tears, he is called the weeping prophet.

The shortest verse in the bible is “Jesus wept (John 11:35).” We are not told why Jesus wept, only that He wept.

Remember, the accolades of Hebrews 11 and the various museums are conveyed upon those who have finished this race. Whether you are running the race as a messenger or a receiver, we are both under the hand of the Almighty.
