Prayer: Father, may I learn from Your Word today, the difference between an external law and an internal covenant with You. Amen.
Reading: Jeremiah 31 Key: vs. 32 ““But this is the covenant I will make with the house of Israel after those days” —it is a declaration of Adonai— “I will put My Torah within them. Yes, I will write it on their heart. I will be their God and they will be My people.” TLV
Attention: To understand the New Testament, we must understand the Old Testament, for it is the foundation upon which our faith is built upon. Jeremiah references the Torah which was written on stone (Exodus 20; 31:18). He tells us about the primary characters in Rachel, Jacob, and Ephraim. Do you know who Rachel is Jacob? They are husband and wife. Rachel is one of two wives to Jacob, her sister Leah being the other wife. Together, they and their handmaidens have twelve sons. The twelve sons become the twelve tribes of Israel (Jacob’s name was changed to Israel), the name of both their father and the nation.
So, who is Ephraim? He is the youngest of two sons born to Joseph while in Egypt by the “Asenath, daughter of the priest of On (Genesis 41:52). He was adopted by his grandfather Jaco and given precedence over his brother Manasseh (Genesis 48:14).” I encourage you to read the entire chapter (48), to get proper context. Both boys are adopted by Jacob and in the assigning of land in Canaan, they are assigned (allotted) land as one of the twelve sons. You would have to study the book of Joshua to know who was allotted land and who was not.
The key take from Jeremiah 31 is the future covenant transition from the original Toral (external, written on stone) to a new covenant written on their hearts. The new relationship with His covenant nation will be written on their hearts.
The new relationship with Yeshua is internal and a transition from external to internal. He now resides in temples not made by hand. I encourage you to seek a relationship with God in which His Spirit dwells within you.
Action: I choose to live with the indwelling Holy Spirit.
Yield: I choose to submit to the Spirit of the living God.
Engage: I choose to engage with the Indwelling power of the Holy Spirit.
Relationship: I choose to live in holy intimate relationship with God.
Prayer: Father, I choose to embrace the transition which You initiated. A transition from an exterior law to an indwelling Spirit with Your covenant written on my heart. Amen.
Memory Verse: Acts 7:47-49 “But Solomon built a house for Him. However, Elyon does not dwell in man-made houses. As the prophet says, ‘Heaven is My throne, and the earth is the footstool of My feet. What kind of house will you build for Me, says Adonai, or what is the place of My rest.” TLV
